Enough is enough: Tottenham should offload Moussa Sissoko

Tottenham Hotspur have made a positive start under Mauricio Pochettino this season despite the club failing to make any transfers in the summer. However, a number of injuries have taken a toll on the team in recent times with Spurs succumbing to losses against Watford, and Barcelona in the Champions League.

The Lilywhites definitely need at least one or two signings when the window opens in January or it could get very difficult for the club to compete on all fronts. A good way for Tottenham to generate some funds is by offloading the fringe players at the club.

One man Spurs can look to offload is midfielder Moussa Sissoko. Since making the move from Newcastle United two years ago, the Frenchman has failed to nail down a place in the first-team. He has often been resorted to bench roles and has barely played a role in Mauricio Pochettino’s side.

Injuries to Christian Eriksen, Dele Alli and Mousa Dembele have seen Sissoko receive an extended role in the squad and yet, he has failed to impress once again. He has played a total of 4 games this season and has barely made an impact so far.

Playing on the right-hand side of a 4-4-2, Sissoko has failed to create much going forward. He has only been able to muster a total of 2 crosses into the box, creating just 1 big chance. (Stats Courtesy – Premier League)

The Frenchman has also given the ball away on a countless number of occasions, especially in dangerous positions. He seems to take too many touches on the ball before eventually going down in vain.

He has also failed to support the defence at times and is mostly caught out of position. Sissoko has made just 2 successful tackles in 4 appearances so far.

He has also mustered just 3 clearances and no interceptions. The 29-year-old is also guilty of scuppering a number of chances in the final third. (Stats Courtesy – Premier League)

Spurs must definitely offload Moussa Sissoko at the first chance they get. The former Newcastle United midfielder, who earns £95,000-a-week, does not look anything like his previous self and there seem to be no signs of improvement as well.

It would be a more feasible decision for Spurs to offload him for a decent amount and use those funds to engineer a move for another player.
