Everton must surely rebuff interest in their promising 21-year-old starlet and keep hold of him – would be a statement

Everton opinion: Should Silva keep Nikola Vlasic?

According to a report from the Liverpool Echo, Nikola Vlasic has been quoted saying that he would like to make a permanent move to CSKA Moscow in the summer. The 21-year-old has been on loan at the Russian club since the start of the season and has been hugely impressive.

Vlasic joined Everton in the summer of 2017 but failed to make a significant impact since joining the Toffees. Despite scoring twice and assisting once in the Toffees’ Europa League campaign, his performances didn’t warrant a regular role in the first-team.

Vlasic joined the Russian outfit in the summer. Since joining, he has scored 8 goals and even got 5 assists to his name. The 21-year-old rose to fame after scoring the winner in a Champions League tie, against defending champions Real Madrid, earlier in the season.

Vlasic’s desire to move away from the Goodison is justified due to the lack of playing time he got last season but Everton would be making a massive mistake letting him go. The young Serb deserves another chance next season.

Everton’s season looks to be back on track after an impressive 1-0 win against Arsenal over the weekend. The Toffees now sit just a point away from 7th-placed Leicester. A European adventure next season is on the cards if they manage to continue their form until the end of the season.

Marco Silva’s side have been heavily reliant on the performances of summer signing Richarlison and Iceland international Gylfi Sigurdsson this season.

The former Tottenham man has pulled the strings from the number 10 position and has directly contributed to 18 goals in all competitions so far, this season.

However, Sigurdsson will be turning 30 at the start of next season and his age will certainly be a factor to consider in the coming years. The Toffees will need to prepare a long-term replacement for Sigurdsson and Vlasic would be an ideal option for Marco Silva.

One of the similarities between Sigurdsson and Vlasic is their ability to shoot from distance. This trait has massively helped Everton since Sigurdsson’s arrival from Swansea in 2017 and the Toffees should look for the same trait in his replacement.

Vlasic also has a brilliant eye for a pass and his presence in Everton’s midfield could set free the likes of Richarlison and Bernard next season. Vlasic is only 21 and has a lot of potential, which he could fulfil at Everton.

Conclusion

Everton will be making a massive mistake if the allow Nikola Vlasic to leave in the summer. The Serbian has the potential to be an asset to this Everton side for the next decade and he would thrive in Marco Silva’s system.

The Toffees should fend off CSKA’s interest in the 21-year-old and give him another opportunity to prove himself.
