Everton reviving interest in signing this powerful 25-year-old striker would be a smart move by Marco Silva

Everton Opinion: Why Yussuf Poulsen would be a brilliant fit for the Toffees?

Back in July 2018, Calciomercato claimed Everton were one of the few Premier League clubs to have shown an interest in signing RB Leipzig forward Yussuf Poulsen. (h/t Liverpool Echo)

The Toffees failed to hit the heights that were expected out of them in Marco Silva’s first season at Goodison Park. Everton’s lack of a goalscorer held the team back this past campaign, with Cenk Tosun failing to have the desired impact after signing from Besiktas last January. Tosun struggled immensely which saw Silva use Richarlison up front for the majority of the season.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin led the line well in the second half of the 2018/19 but to rely upon the shoulders of the young striker for an entire season will be a big gamble to take for Silva. The Merseysiders have already made a couple of additions so far in the summer transfer window but the Portuguese tactician’s priority lies in finding a new striker to bolster the Merseysiders’ hopes of challenging for a place in Europe next season.

Hence, the time is ripe for Everton to rekindle their interest in RB Leipzig forward Yussuf Poulsen and sign him after a fantastic 2018/19, where he scored 15 goals in 31 Bundesliga appearances.

Poulsen is exactly the man Everton need to spearhead their attack. Standing at 6ft 3in tall, he is very much of a target-man who gets involved in the play and helps teams get the ball up the pitch, whilst being clinical in front of goal. The Dane can play out wide but Silva’s current wide options are decent and he’ll be simply ideal upfront.

A quick and powerful striker, the 25-year-old has all the right attributes to be a massive success in the Premier League. Despite possessing a towering frame, he is relatively agile than other target-men and can rip apart defences with his movement, burst of pace and dribbling skills.

The Denmark international is excellent when it comes to link-up play and creative players like Richarlison, Sigurdsson and Bernard would be licking their licks of having someone like Poulsen making runs in the box.

Verdict

Poulsen would be a brilliant signing for the Toffees and could be the man to shine as a centre-forward for them for years to come. He has bags of potential waiting to be untapped and Silva could be the right manager to help him take his game to the next level.
