Everton should not hesitate to splash £20m to replace PL veteran who hasn’t impressed at all

Why should Everton sign Andrija Zivkovic in the winter window

According to a report in Liverpool Echo (h/t Dominic King twitter), Premier League club Everton have been linked with Benfica winger Andrija Zivkovic. He is a Serbian international who can play as a number 10 or on the wing.

Manager Marco Silva has been taking a close look at his progress, just like the other few clubs in the Premier League. The player would cost around £20m or more.

Everton had a pretty fruitful summer transfer window in which they were proactive and got the deals to help the new manager. They have made a positive start to the season, and grabbing a point at Stamford Bridge was a sign of clear progress under the Portuguese.

However, there is one player who is yet to convince the Merseysiders – Theo Walcott. The former Arsenal wide man arrived at the Goodison Park in January for £20m and hasn’t really lived up to the standards.

Theo Walcott

The 29-year-old has scored five goals and supplied five assists in 26 league appearances for the club. If the previous stat isn’t alarming, the Englishman has missed five big chances this season. This is a cause of concern just because every big team in the top-flight expects its wide attackers to be as lethal as the strikers. (Stats Courtesy – Premierleague.com)

Hence, it would be a good idea if the club explore the market and buy a player who can play on the right wing, and as a number 10. And Zivkovic should be a good signing, bearing in mind that he has the propensities to be a world-class player.

Looking at some of his attributes, the 22-year-old possesses the raw pace that can be a threatening prospect for any defender in the world. His dribbling ability is right up there as well, partly a reason why the close-control is sumptuous.

The best thing about the Serbian is that his key passing is very good along with his shooting, meaning he is a multi-dimensional player.

Verdict

Everton are seeking to break into the top eight in the Premier League this season after a disappointing few campaigns. For that to happen, they require players of high quality to challenge the best in the country. Walcott’s current form should be a cause of concern, hence, getting a versatile forward like Zivkovic would be ideal.
