Everton’s pursuit of this 27-year-old Frenchman is certain to solve their right-back woes – Here is why

Everton opinion: Everton should sign Djibril Sidibe

According to a report in the Liverpool Echo, Everton have been linked with a move for Monaco right-back Djibril Sidibe. The French international is 27 now and will be looking for a big move in his prime.

Since Everton are showing the ambition to make into Europe, Sidibe would be another statement signing.

Sidibe was part of the exciting Monaco side in the 2016/17 season that won the Ligue 1 and made it to the Champions League but did not kick on from there, as Monaco sold most of their other top players. Sidibe is a raiding full-back and his strengths lie in the attack.

Everton huffed and puffed last season. They made a decent start to the season but really struggled before an inspired performance against local rivals Liverpool gave them some impetus for the rest of the term.

Djibril Sidibe

Everton must transform into a more attacking unit under Marco Silva but it was quite clear last season that he didn’t have the tools to do that, often depending on the individual brilliance of Lucas Digne, Richarlison and Gylfi Sigurdsson.

They’ve lost Idrissa Gueye, who was a very important player to knit the rest of the team together, and it’s important they improve in other areas.

They’ve finally added some goals in Moise Kean and they’ve also added some experience in Fabian Delph. Getting Andre Gomes to commit his long-term future was massive while they also signed Jean-Philippe Gbamin.

Marco Silva will be given less time to make this side the real deal, as they’ve invested a lot over the last couple of years and they don’t look like they’re going to stop anytime soon.

They also have a fantastic run of fixtures to help make the perfect start to the season. And not to mention, Sidibe will be a fantastic signing for the Toffees.

Conclusion

Everton have spent a lot of money and are a historic club in England. They will be hoping that they can break into those Europa League spots or even the top-four with Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United showing some vulnerabilities last season.

Everton must pounce on this deal. Otherwise, Marco Silva might not last the season.
