Everton signing this £10m+ Championship star would add some much-needed strength to a key area

Everton opinion: The Toffees should make a move for Adam Webster

According to the Sun, Everton have joined the race for Bristol City star Adam Webster. The Toffees are keen on a new defender as they search for new additions, and they believe that the 24-year-old would be a great move.

It should come as no surprise especially given the season that the defender has had. He arrived just last summer in a deal that could rise to at least £8million. Due to a sell-on clause, Bristol City want the bids to be above £10m.

Adam Webster finished the season with a rather impressive 47 appearances in all competitions, including 44 in just the Championship.

That tally could have been every single league game, but the 24-year-old missed two, thanks to other issues. It’s why Everton need the 24-year-old, especially given their defensive issues over the last few seasons.

The Toffees given the team that Marco Silva has and the players that they signed last summer, should have seen them finish so much higher. Instead, they finished three points behind newly promoted Wolverhampton Wanderers, who took the final European spot.

With the likes of Lucas Digne, Yerry Mina, Richarlison, Andre Gomes and even Bernard, Everton should have played a lot better. One of their main issues was the lack of a reliable defensive partnership, with Kurt Zouma and Michael Kean the only ones to fall back on.

But now that Zouma has returned to Chelsea after his loan spell, things need to change. And maybe the man who bears an eerie resemblance to a certain John Stones would be the perfect addition.

The 24-year-old is press-resistant, has the ability and skill to do so much better and is surprisingly grounded.

Not just that, Webster epitomizes the modern centre-back, one that is as good with his feet as he is defensively. An astute reader of the game, the 24-year-old belies his age and can improve on his aggression and could flourish for a better side.

That is a risk that Everton needs to take and given the fact that the Toffees have spent far too much money on the wrong players, it’s time they spend it on the right men.

Conclusion

Everton need a few new reinforcements to help the club move forward and while they do have a decent team right now, it needs a few changes. Sure, Adam Webster might be only 24-years old but the centre-back has shown a lot of promise and that is something that Everton have to take full advantage of.
