Everton signing this 21-year-old Bundesliga hotshot would be a terrific move by Marco Silva – opinion

Everton opinion: Should the Toffees sign Jean-Kevin Augustin?

According to a report from the Liverpool Echo, RB Leipzig’s Jean Kevin Augustin could be on the move in the summer, with Everton keen on signing him.

The Frenchman’s role in the squad has diminished, with Timo Werner clearly the first choice at the club and his departure in search of regular game time is a serious possibility.

The report reveals that the Toffees were interested in Augustin at the start of this season but a move failed to materialise. However, he could be available in the summer for a reasonable fee according to the report and Everton could do with somebody like him.

Marco Silva’s side’s biggest area of concern this season has been in attack. Gylfi Sigurdsson and record summer signing Richarlison have carried the Toffees, with both players into double figures with goals this season.

However, Everton’s strikers have been miserable in front of goal, which has massively hindered the Toffees’ success this season. Cenk Tosun has scored just twice all season and young Dominic Calvert-Lewin has struggled too, having found the net just 6 times in 33 appearances so far.

Everton will need to take the pressure off of Richarlison and Calvert-Lewin next season and signing Jean-Kevin Augustin would bolster their attack massively. The former PSG forward has started just three times this season and has 3 goals to his name in the Bundesliga so far.

Augustin has 8 goals in all competitions and the lack of chances has been a major stumbling block in his development this season. The Frenchman had a fantastic debut season in the Bundesliga last year, where he scored 12 goals and provided 6 assists in 18 starts in all competitions.

Despite his brilliant first season, he hasn’t been given enough opportunities to make a mark but at Everton, he would definitely be a regular starter.

Augustin’s electric pace up front would be a valuable asset to the Toffees and with Sigurdsson feeing him from midfield, he could terrorize defences in the Premier League.

The youngster is a calm and composed figure in front of goal and is capable of finishing even when under pressure. Augustin is also capable of scoring with both feet and his pace and dribbling skills allow him to play anywhere in attack.

Conclusion

Augustin is still only 21 and any investment on him would give a brilliant return to the Toffees.

Everton shouldn’t think twice about making a move for the Frenchman in the summer and his inclusion will not only bring them goals but will also make their attack a lot more fluidm which would bring the best out of his fellow attackers.
