Everton signing this 7-goal Ligue 1 struggler would be nothing but a disaster decision by Marco Silva – agreed?

Everton opinion: Should the Toffees sign Bertrand Traore?

According to a report from the Daily Post, Everton are interested in signing Olympique Lyon’s Bertrand Traore in the summer. The former Chelsea winger has been linked with a return to the Premier League with Everton said to have been tracking his progress this season.

The Toffees, despite a strong final few games to end the season, failed to get into the Europa League places but Marco Silva has finally got them playing the way that he wants them to.

Everton players initially found it difficult to adjust to his style but it was put into practice perfectly in the second half of the campaign.

Everton will once again have a serious go to the finish as the best of the rest next season and for that they will need to address a few areas of concern. Their attack, bar Richarlison and probably Bernard in the second half of the season, has been terrible and changes need to be made.

Ademola Lookman, despite his immense potential, has struggled for game time; while Theo Walcott, barring a few big goals and big teams at the end, has had a disappointing season where he scored just 5 times all season.

A versatile forward who will bring in goals and assists is a massive need and they should go all out to sign someone who is on top of their game but making a move for Bertrand Traore screams of a lack of ambition from the Toffees.

The former Chelsea man has scored just 7 goals and has provided a disappointing 2 assists in 32 appearances for Lyon in the Ligue 1 this season. A return of just 9 goal contributions in over 30 games is a poor return, especially in Ligue 1.

The skill set required to succeed in the Premier League is a lot higher than in the French top-flight, which will make it terribly hard for Traore to come in and have an immediate impact at Goodison Park next season.

The last thing Everton need at this moment is another player who fills up their age bill without any considerable return and signing Bertrand Traore could well turn out to be the same next term.

Conclusion

Bertrand Traore will not be the answer to Everton’s attacking woes next season and the Toffees should not make the mistake of signing him in the summer. The Toffees should use the same money to sign someone far more established in the top-level and Traore is not that player.
