Liverpool Player Ratings in Merseyside Derby
Liverpool and Everton played out a pulsating three all draw in the first Merseyside derby of the season. While Brendan Rodgers might be infuriated by referee Phil Dowd’s decision not to send Kevin Mirralas off for a studs on challenge on Luis Suarez, Everton boss Roberto Martinez will be shell shocked as his side squandered three points when his side let in a goal just a minute before the end of regulation time. As the curtains fell on perhaps the best match of the season so far in the EPL, we thought to bring you the player ratings from the Liverpool squad.
Simon Mingolet: An astonishing display by the Belgian who kept out Everton time and again from scoring and virtually saved three clear goals one on one. Mingolet was surely not to blame for either of three goals which went past him, but Rodgers would have surely appreciated that he certainly made a steal by signing from Sunderland.
Rating: 4/5
Glen Johnson: Perhaps the English International was to blame for Lukaku’s thundering header, Johnson did however display immense energy all around the park but defensively should have done much better. Not a good at the office certainly!
Rating: 3/5
Martin Skrtel: I for one thought he had a great game at the heart of Liverpool defence, even though if we have to consider the scoreline. The Slovakian displayed tremendous performance worthy of being appreciated and certainly has made it sure that he should not be sold come this January!
Rating: 3.5/5
Daniel Agger: The Dane should have done better while handling Lukaku and was certainly to blame for the equaliser as he was caught ball watching of which the opposing Belgian took full advantage.
Rating: 3/5
John Flanagan: Was asked to play out of his position, but gave his all considering his age and tremendous willingness to prove himself on the big stage. He did struggle at times but he will certainly mature with age.
Rating: 3/5
Jordan Henderson: Playing on the centre suits him better rather than being drafted outside on the right but the former Sunderland man is getting better every day but he needs to develop quickly if he has to stomp his mark in the Reds squad.
Rating: 3.5/5
Joe Allen: The less said about him the better. One player who displayed that he could even miss from point blank range and we taunt Torres. Shame! (FLOP OF THE GAME)
Rating: Is zero the apt option? Certainly!
Steven Gerrard: His age is certainly catching up with him but he still possesses that brilliant deliveries which comes in with pace and that is exactly how Sturridge got the equalizer late on.
Rating: 3/5
Lucas Leiva: If there is one position Liverpool need to strengthen in January, is that is the Central Defensive midfield option. Lucas looks past the player he was once two season ago and his excruciating injury has really hampered and looks to have lost his touch, poise and tackling.
Rating: 3/5
Phillipe Coutinho: The Brazilian dynamite is absolutely sublime when he is in full flow and has the potential to make it big in Liverpool colours. Had a superb game, was brilliant while moving forward and was equally great given his defensive tracking back duties. A certain star for the future.
Rating: 4/5
Luis Suarez: I am lost of words of this Uruguayan. Placed a world class free kick to put Liverpool ahead and almost snatched the game for the Reds in injury time with hi blistering left footed half volley. Was unfairly tackled by Kevin Mirralas who should been sent off for the rash tackle.
Rating: 4.5/5
