Everton would be very clever to plot a move for this promising 22-year-old Ligue 1 starlet – Silva must get him

Everton Opinion: Why Lucas Tousart would be a good fit for the Toffees

According to Le Quotidian Du Foot (h/t The Daily Post), Everton have made contact with the representatives of Lyon midfielder Lucas Tousart.

Tousart, 22, did not have an impressive tournament at this summer’s Under-21 European Championships but has shown on countless occasions for Lyon that he has the makings of a high-quality midfielder. He is very experienced for his age having already played 125 times for Lyon in Ligue 1.

But following the arrivals of Jean Lucas and Thiago Mendes, Tousart has fallen down the pecking order at Lyon. Apparently, the Frenchman could leave the club in order to play regularly and with that in mind, Marco Silva should go all out to land the defensive midfielder at Everton this summer.

The Toffees have made three signings so far this summer, with Jonas Lossl, Andre Gomes and Fabian Delph arriving.

The Merseysiders ended the last season on a positive note and Silva will be keen to climb up the table this time around, as the Portuguese tactician will be aiming to break into the top six. Despite signing two midfielders in Gomes and Delph, there is a big chance of Silva watching Idrissa Gueye depart this summer.

Paris Saint-Germain are thought to be interested in signing Idrissa Gueye this summer, as claimed by the Telegraph. If this deal were to be made, then it would pave the way for Tousart to arrive at Goodison Park.

Tousart fits the mould of the sort of player that Everton’s Director of Football Marcel Brands wants to sign.

The 22-year-old is a technically gifted midfielder, known for his work rate, energy, passing range and tackling skills. He is a very good reader of the game and an uncompromised tackler, never shying away from jumping into challenges to stop the opposition from advancing.

The Lyon midfielder is just 22 and far away from his peak. He will only get better with maturity and proper coaching.

Also, the Frenchman would be the ideal man to replace Gueye at Goodison Park. Tousart doesn’t possess the same defensive qualities that Gueye has in his locker but he is arguably more accomplished while being in possession and dictating play from the deep.

All in all, the French Under-21 international would be a positive addition if Everton manage to sign him.

Verdict

Tousart is an exciting young talent and has all the attributes to be a force in the Premier League if he moves to England. Thus, Everton should quickly snap him up from Lyon.
