Everton’s central midfield unit would receive a new dimension by signing this tough-tackling beast – Here’s why

Everton Opinion: Why the Toffees should make a move for Badou Ndiaye?

According to Turkish publication Fanatik, Stoke City midfielder Badou Ndiaye is a target for Premier League side Everton. (h/t Daily Post)

The Senegalese midfielder moved to the bet365 Stadium from Galatasaray in January 2018. After making just 14 appearances for Stoke, he was loaned back to the Turkish giants last summer, following the Potters’ relegation from the Premier League.

Galatasaray are thought to be interested in bringing the player back this summer, with Ligue 1 outfit Lille also keen on him.

It appears as though Badou Ndiaye is set to leave Stoke in the summer transfer window following their failure to win immediate promotion back to the Premier League, and Everton are keen to offer him the chance to return to the top-flight.

He is currently under contract at Stoke until 2022, so should the Toffees launch a hefty bid to sign Ndiaye?

Absolutely, they must! Marco Silva’s side are hoping to break into Europe come May next year, and need top quality players to help them achieve that.

They have signed made two signings in the summer transfer till date, with Andre Gomes joining the Merseysiders permanently from Barcelona after a strong loan spell last season. Yet, there is no doubt that Everton need more bite and steel in midfield to compete for a place in the top-six next season.

The Toffees have Idrissa Gueye, Morgan Schneiderlin, Tom Davies and Andre Gomes as central midfielders right now. Another strong midfielder would do no harm for Silva and Badou Ndiaye would be a smart addition.

Bringing in Ndiaye could give Everton the extra energy and bite they need in the heart of midfield if Gueye leaves the club. Silva would be hoping to see Ndiaye form a midfield partnership with his Senegal teammate Gueye, but the latter is a summer transfer target for PSG.

If the Everton boss can keep hold of Gueye and manage to bring in Ndiaye, the Toffees could have a really strong midfield next season.

Ndiaye has previous Premier League experience with the Potters and has similar qualities to Gueye, with the pair both known for their aggression, energy, tough-tackling and ball-winning traits. Add Gomes’ creativity, vision and distribution skills and Everton would have a complete midfield.

Verdict

With Galatasaray and Lille also interested in the Senegal international, Everton will have to move quickly to sign the midfielder from Stoke this summer. They certainly have the financial muscle to pull this off.
