Everton opinion: The Toffees should make a move for Lucas Ocampos

According to English news outlet Daily Star, Everton have re-entered the race for Marseille star Lucas Ocampos. The Toffees are looking for a brand new winger and it seems that Ocampos’ name has re-entered the race.

That is a little surprising, given Ademola Lookman’s burgeoning young talent but c’est la vie. Everton were linked with a move a few months ago, but nothing materialized. Now, with Marseille now looking to sell a few stars, according to Sky Sports, it gives the Premier League side another chance.

However, Ocampos’ name isn’t on the list of potential transfers but it’s a move that Everton need. The 24-year-old has played all over the world, with spells at River Plate, Monaco, Genoa and AC Milan over the course of his career. It’s what has finally given him the experience and ability to succeed.

Last season alone, the 24-year-old produced 12 goals in all competitions for Marseille and given the club’s terrible term, it’s a sheer shock. Only one man at Marseille has done as well and that’s the incredibly prolific Florian Thauvin.  Last season, the Frenchman managed to produce 22 goals in the Ligue 1 and Ocampos is far off in comparison.

However, for Everton, that really shouldn’t make a big difference, especially with the Toffees’ front-line in dire shape. They’ve depended heavily on both Gylfi Sigurdsson and Richarlison and the two have really stepped up.

Sure, it has been in brackets of great performances but nonetheless, they’ve stepped up, creating and scoring a combined total of 37 goals. That accounts for 61% of the goals that the Toffees scored last season and for any side, that is a staggering number.

The club must stop depending on just a few players in the near future and while Ocampos is not a prolific goalscorer, he steps up when needed. It’s exactly the kind of presence that Everton need and Lucas Ocampos has become someone that clubs can depend upon.

That’s a rare trait in this day but for Everton it’s a move that they need to make if they want to fight with the big boys.

Everton need a few new additions to move forward and adding someone like Lucas Ocampos will help their cause.

The 24-year-old is hard-working, tenacious and very good when the pressure is on, which is just what the Toffees need.

There is only so much Richarlison and Gylfi Sigurdsson can do, which is when Lucas Ocampos can walk in and score a few goals.
