Excellent Cavaleiro, Average Douglas – The best and the worst rated Wolves players vs QPR

Wolves 2-1 QPR: N’Diaye And Costa Clinch 3 Points For Nuno Santo’s Men

Wolverhampton Wanderers beat QPR 2-1 to keep their unbeaten run intact despite an impressive second-half showing from QPR in the West Midlands. It seemed like Wolves would walk away with an easy win at half-time but QPR dug in and played impressively well in the second half only to be denied by John Ruddy and the rest of the Wolves defence on several occasions.

A performance like this showed a different side to a team who can start preparing for Premier League football next season. They flew out of the traps in this game, getting a goal in the 12th minute from Alfred N’Diaye. Helder Costa got a beautifully worked second goal and they had many chances in the first half to put the game to bed. Despite a spirited comeback from QPR in the second half, Wolves held on to claim an important victory in their quest for the title.

Wolves Player Ratings

John Ruddy – 8

Had to work hard in the second half after virtually being a spectator in the first. Did well to keep QPR’s score to just one.

Willy Boly – 8

Boly looks like Premier League quality already and his skills in this game came to the fore as he held the back three together, when they were under pressure from the QPR attack.

Conor Coady – 7.5

An assured performance as always from the Wolves captain. Put his body on the line for his team and can be very happy with his work.

Ryan Bennett – 7

Looks reinvented in a Wolves shirt. Was confident on the ball while being assured in defence. Will not be happy to have lost the clean sheet but he was a major reason why they only conceded one.

Barry Douglas – 6.5

A quiet game by his standards and required to do much more defensive work in the second half.

Alfred N’Diaye – 8

Took his goal very well and played an incredible game all-round. He showed once again why he is one of the most underrated midfielders in the Championship.

Ruben Neves – 7

Set the tempo so well for the team in the first half. That perhaps faded a little by the time the final whistle came.

Matt Doherty – 6.5

Like his fellow defensive winger Douglas, Doherty was pushed back in the second half, and so couldn’t get into the game as much as he would have liked to.

Ivan Cavaleiro – 9

Two beautiful assists and an all-round fantastic game. One of the best players to ever play at this level. The league should enjoy him while they can.

Diogo Jota – 7

Lead the line well. He will feel the most pressure now, as Benik Afobe is back in the West Midlands. Jota will be hoping to bag a goal or two to keep Afobe on the bench.

Helder Costa – 8

He has been the forgotten man of Wolves in a way, but he took his goal well and will be happy with the performance he put in.

Substitutes

Benik Afobe (for Cavaleiro 65′) – 7

Should have got a goal but other than that, he showed a different way that Wolves can win a game.

Morgan Gibbs-White (for Costa 77′) – N/A

Only 18 years old and only his third appearance in the Championship. Good work from the young player.
