Fantastic Firmino, Average Matip – The best and the worst rated Liverpool players vs Huddersfield

Final Score: Huddersfield Town 0-3 Liverpool

Liverpool eased past Huddersfield Town to come back to winning ways and recover from two defeats in a row previously. They beat the Terriers 3-0, with Emre Can, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah registering their names on the score sheet. The Egyptian doesn’t seem to stop scoring, irrespective of whether his side wins or loses. He scalped his 26th goal of the season in the 78th minute.

The Reds never had to change gears as they kept questioning the Huddersfield backline to almost always be on the front foot. The home side though, threatened on the break a couple of times but were left frustrated for the most part of it. When they looked intense going forward, Roberto Firmino doubled Liverpool’s lead to seal the deal. In the second half, Emre Can was pushed inside the box that gave Liverpool a penalty, which Salah converted.

Here’s how the Reds fared on the night:

Liverpool Player Ratings

Loris Karius: 8/10

Much more confident in goal, came off his blocks to collect the ball. He made one crucial save before half-time too, where he had to go down quickly.

Joe Gomez: 7/10

Didn’t track the runs that were made behind him and gave a lot of space. But he got better as the game went on.

Joel Matip: 6.5/10

Was fine for the most part of the game, passed the ball well but needs to cut down the defensive errors that he keeps making. Luckily, it didn’t turn out to be costly last night.

Dejan Lovren: 8/10

Tackled really well, was aggressive and looked positive. He always placed himself in the right positions and was focused throughout.

Andrew Robertson: 8.5/10

Covered so much ground, got forward with conviction, whipped in teasing crosses and was a constant threat in the final third.

Jordan Henderson: 8.5/10

Bossed the midfield, dictated the play and was always asking for the pass. Defensively, his positioning and intercepting were solid.

Emre Can: 9/10

Opened the scoring, looked dangerous when he burst forward and outmuscled the opposition. He won a penalty too.

James Milner: 8/10

Applied himself in key areas, played the early balls whenever required and showed good feet. He was productive when in possession.

Mohamed Salah: 8.5/10

Everytime he picked up the ball in wider areas and charged forward, the Egyptian looked like he was just a moment away from creating something. Very direct, confident and sharp while dribbling. He ran riot from the right-wing.

Sadio Mané: 7.5/10

Worked hard, always ran the extra yard and accelerated well. His first touch and final ball let him down in the first-half.

Roberto Firmino: 9/10

Such a cool finisher! For a team’s striker to be able to show so much composure in front of goal is a boon to any side. His dribbling, movement and work rate were all on point.
