Fantastic Iborra, Brilliant Vardy – The best and the worst rated Leicester players vs Brighton

Brighton and Hove Albion 0-2 Leicester City: Foxes Hold On Tight To Clinch 3 Points

Leicester held on to beat Brighton and Hove Albion and take three points back to the East Midlands. In the first half, the teams cancelled each other out, with some bright sparks coming from Mahrez and Glenn Murray who had a really presentable chance to put Brighton in the lead. Other than that, there were very few chances to speak of.

It looked like the game was going to stay 0-0 until an 83rd-minute goal from Vincente Iborra. Just 4 minutes later, Wilfred Ndidi was sent off after a second bookable offence and Brighton threw everything at the Leicester goal. However, Leicester managed to get a second goal on the break via Jamie Vardy, to make the game safe.

Leicester City Player Ratings

Kasper Schmeichel – 7.5

Was not troubled much and did all that was needed of him, including saving a penalty from Glenn Murray.

Danny Simpson – 7

Like all of the Leicester defenders, he picked up a yellow card. Didn’t offer much going forward.

Wes Morgan – 6.5

Looked slow and off the pace at times, but managed to keep the Brighton attackers at bay.

Harry Maguire

Harry Maguire – 7.5

Plays the ball wonderfully out of defence and covered his defensive partner Morgan on more than one occasion.

Ben Chilwell – 7

Produced a lovely ball for the goal and made some good runs. An impressive performance from the young man.

Riyad Mahrez – 7.5

He was a constant threat but the strikers failed to get on the end of one of his deliveries. But he did win the free kick for the goal.

Vicente Iborra – 8

Nothing seemed to drop for him in the first half and took his goal very well. Will be happy with his contribution.

Wilfred Ndidi – 6

Was sent off in the 87th minute for a second bookable offence, which put his side under pressure when they had just taken the lead.

Jamie Vardy

Marc Albrighton – 7

Played well at times but his final ball was not up to scratch.

Shinji Okazaki – 6.5

Gave a good account of himself as he always does but didn’t have the opportunity to show what he is really made of.

Jamie Vardy – 8

Not his best day as lost the ball a lot. Didn’t get a look in until the final minute when he finished well after a fast Leicester counter-attack.

Substitutes

Fousseni Diabate (for Okazaki 56′) – 6

Played well and gave Leicester an extra dimension.

Demarai Gray (for Albrighton 79′) – 6.5

Gave the team another outlet going forward and used his speed well.

Christian Fuchs (for Mahrez 85′) – N/A

Was brought on to shore up the defence. Not enough time to make an impression.
