Fantastic Ozil – The Best And The Worst Rated Arsenal Players From The 1-1 Draw vs Southampton

Full Time: Southampton 1-1 Arsenal

Arsenal succumbed to a 1-1 draw against Southampton and the Gunners missed out on a good opportunity to rake in 3 points. Although they came back strongly after the international break, Arsenal have not been in the best of forms. They lost against Manchester United and now the draw has seen them lose 4 precious points in two games. Arsene Wenger’s men seemed shaky at the back and an early mistake from Per Mertesacker allowed the Saints to capitalise and score a goal.

After that, Arsenal tried hard to undo the damage but not many could best Fraser Forster in goal. However, Olivier Giroud managed to salvage the day and rescue a solitary point for Arsenal. That said, there were a lot of frustrating moments for the visiting Arsenal side. Let’s take a look at how their players fared.

Arsenal Player Ratings

Petr Cech – 7/10

One cannot blame Cech for the goal scored by Charlie Austin. He did make a couple of good saves afterwards and even kept Virgil van Dijk’s dangerous ball at bay.

Laurent Koscielny – 4/10

Koscielny looked unusually shaky and kept allowing the opposition to take the ball away from him. He almost seemed like a liability for Arsenal and perhaps it is time for Wenger to provide him some time away from the field.

Per Mertesacker – 2/10

Mertesacker had a nightmarish start to the game when he allowed Charlie Austin to score. One expected him to do better eventually but the player just made mistake after mistake. He simply looked on as a shot from Oriol Romeu hit the crossbar.

Nacho Monreal – 5/10

Compared to his partners, Monreal seemed better but it was not good enough. He took himself out of too many plays for absolutely no reason but he did seem like the lone sturdy player at the back.

Hector Bellerin – 5.5/10

Bellerin was played higher up than usual which allowed Southampton to gleefully exploit that area. He did provide support in a few defensive situations but was hardly average.

Sead Kolasinac – 7/10

Finally, we get a player besides Cech who receives a rating higher than 6. He did play some balls poorly but was impressive as ever in the attacking third.

Granit Xhaka – 6.5/10

Xhaka was his usual self more or less – which means he made a couple of poor passes but did create chances and control the proceedings to an extent.

Aaron Ramsey – 7.5/10

Ramsey proved to be a dependable figure once more but he seemed to injure his hamstring towards the end of the game. He found spaces and did what he could but he was a tad bit irresponsible when it came to maintaining the possession of the ball.

Mesut Ozil – 8/10

Once more, Ozil put in a performance that might have seemed underwhelming but necessary. He used his body efficiently and even got a chance to score but Forster ensured the ball did not get in.

Alexis Sanchez – 5/10

Sanchez was out there but his performance was infuriating, to say the least. He gave the ball away like nobody’s business and was simply inconsistent throughout the game.

Alexandre Lacazette – 6/10

Lacazette made the right touches but that yielded no results and he was taken off in the second half.

Subs:

Danny Welbeck – 5/10

Welbeck did not do much and looked lost most of the time.

Jack Wilshere – 6/10

He came on for Xhaka and worked hard to make things happen – which is more than what can be said for most of the players.

Olivier Giroud – 8/10

Giroud has bailed the Gunners out of sticky situations this season and continues to be reliable as ever.
