Five Ligue 1 Players Who Could Be Coming To The Premier League: Featuring Arsenal And Tottenham Targets

In recent years, we have seen lots of players cross the channel and come to ply their trade with varied success. It has proven to be a reliable place to shop for Premier League sides and I’d expect there to be more players arriving from Ligue 1 this summer. We have already seen Andre Ayew arrive at Swansea and I believe that will just be the start.

The first player who could come to England from France is Alexandre Lacazette who has a growing reputation across Europe after scoring more than 40 goals in his last two seasons at Lyon. He is a pacy forward who causes defences lots of problems with his intelligent movement in the final third. At the age of 24, he could be ready to move to one of Europe’s biggest clubs and there are a few teams in England who would benefit from adding Lacazette to their squad. Last season he managed to score 27 league goals and get 6 assists which highlight his quality in the final third. He can score different sorts of goals with his finishing and long shots both being major strengths in his game. Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester City and Manchester United may all be in the market for a striker this summer and this Frenchman may be at the top of their list.

Yohan Cabaye is a player well suited to the Premier League as he showed in his spell at Newcastle United and the midfielder is available this summer. He has been linked with Arsenal and Tottenham in recent days, but the Frenchman has a lot of quality and could be an option for some of the bigger sides in the league. As he has been sat on the bench at PSG his stock has dropped, but a return to the Premier League could see his career get back on track before the Euros. He will suit Tottenham, Liverpool and Arsenal, but if none of these clubs are interested, then a move to Palace or West Ham would be beneficial ahead of the European Championships next year. Newcastle fans will dream of the midfielder returning to St James’ Park, but that looks unlikely for a number of reasons.

Andre Ayew arrived to Swansea as a free agent and another player who is a bosman this summer is Andre-Pierre Gignac. The forward has been a regular goalscorer throughout his career in France, but the time has come to test his abilities abroad and the Premier League could be the perfect platform for the physical striker. His aerial ability, strength and intimidating frame makes him tailor made for English top flight and it isn’t a surprise that West Ham, West Brom and Newcastle have all been linked in recent weeks. The 29 year old managed to score 21 goals for Marseille over the past season, appearing in every league match which shows the striker is fit and will be capable of playing a leading role for a Premier League side next season.

On the defensive front, Monaco centre half Aymen Abdennour could be available given he isn’t the first choice for his club. He played a key role in the club’s Champions League triumph over Arsenal and he caught the eye of several English clubs over the two legs. Tottenham and Newcastle have been linked with the Tunisian defender due to comments made by his agent. He is a modern day defender who is very good on the ball and capable of bringing it forward while his passing is impressive. He is well built, therefore the physicality of the league shouldn’t be a problem in the long run, but he may take some time to adapt as the Premier League is very different to Ligue 1.

The final player who could interest Premier League clubs is Dimitri Payet, who has been linked with a move to England for quite some time. Everton are the most recent club to be linked with the mercurial winger and it could be the perfect move for the Marseille winger. He has put in some scintillating performances over the last year resulting in a season tally of seven goals and seventeen assists which is an incredible return for a winger. His creativity makes him an attractive proposition for several clubs across Europe, and a move while high on confidence could be the perfect time for Payet. His passing and crossing are both big parts to his game as showed by his assist tally. Payet is also an effective set piece taker and his long shooting ability makes him a threat from distance. If Everton manage to purchase the winger without competition, they will have done a great deal.
