Forget Bellerin – This French World Cup winner could be the perfect right-back for Emery’s Arsenal

Why Djibril Sidibe could be the perfect right-back for Emery’s Arsenal

Arsenal are racking up the signings this summer one by one. New manager Unai Emery has come in and made the club his own. The former PSG manager has already laid out his philosophy and is aiming to take the Gunners back to the top this season.

He will be faced with the immediate task of taking the club back into the top-four given that the Gunners have finished in Europa League spots for two years running now.

Unai Emery has already signed the likes of Stephan Lichtsteiner, Bernd Leno, Lucas Torreira and Sokratis Papastathopoulos. The club has now been linked with Monaco right-back Djibril Sidibe. Emery is reportedly interested in prizing away the full-back from the French outfit.

Sidibe revealed that Arsene Wenger had made an approach for the player back in October but after considering it, he decided to stay at Monaco.

Sidibe is now reportedly open to the move and player could be convinced to join the Gunners. Chelsea are also said to be interested in the full-back but it seems as though Arsenal are in pole position to sign the player, given that Unai Emery has previous experience in the French Ligue 1.

After helping Troyes earn promotion to the Ligue 1, the defender signed for Lille in 2012. The 25-year-old then joined Monaco from Lille in the summer of 2016. He has since gone on to make a total of 56 appearances for the club, scoring 4 goals. He has been a crucial part of Leonardo Jardim’s defensive set up over the last two years.

Sidibe is fast on the ball and runs with tenacity. He is often praised for his work rate on and off the ball. His tireless attitude is what makes him one of the hottest full-backs in Europe at the moment. The former Lille full-back made a total of 25 appearances in the Ligue 1 last season, scoring 2 goals and providing 7 assists.

His crosses into the box are sublime and have often played a major role in Monaco’s goals. The defender was also selected for the French national team that clinched the World Cup in Russia last week, although he was only able to muster 1 appearance and was kept out of the playing XI by Benjamin Pavard.

Sidibe would provide ample cover and depth to the Arsenal squad. He would be the perfect partner to cover for Hector Bellerin. Sidibe’s offensive contribution could be even better than that of Bellerin’s. Unai Emery should certainly go ahead and sign the player.
