Forget Chelsea – Here’s why this world-class 24-year-old creator would be better off joining Man Utd instead

Manchester United or Chelsea – Which club should Sergej Milinkovic-Savic join

According to The Sun, Chelsea have joined Manchester United in the race to sign Lazio playmaker Sergej Milinkovic-Savic in the summer transfer window. Chelsea sent their scouts to watch the 24-year-old Italian in action in the Serie A side’s 1-2 defeat to Celtic during the Europa League last week.

Milinkovic-Savic is into his fifth season with the Italian side and is filled with immense potential. He has featured in Lazio’s all nine Serie A matches this season so far and has already found the back of the net once while setting up his teammates twice. He has continued his fine form in the Europa League also, scoring one goal in three appearances.

The Serbian is coming off an impressive season, scoring five league goals and providing three assists in 31 appearances. His best campaign was 2017-18, where he netted 12 goals and assisted another three in 35 league appearances.

In the past, Lazio president Claudio Lotito has refused offers approaching €100million for the player he regards as the ‘sergeant’ of the side.

Blues boss Frank Lampard needs reinforcements and it makes sense for them to target him since their two-window ban will be over at the end of this season. Chelsea have youngster Mason Mount to play the attacking role while Jorginho also chips in with key long passes in the midfield.

The wingers have been superb for Chelsea this season, scoring five goals and assisting eight goals in the Premier League this season. They have Mateo Kovacic, who joined the club on a permanent deal from Real Madrid this season after spending the last season on loan, and Ross Barkley to fight for the chief architect role.

Meanwhile, Manchester United fans are yet to see any kind of creativity from the Red Devils this season.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was expected to bring back attacking football back to Old Trafford. United have just Paul Pogba to play key passes and open up the opposing defences with his idealistic passes.

However, Pogba has not only struggled to deliver but his future remains uncertain as well.

It would be a perfect opportunity for Milinkovic-Savic to join Solskjaer’s squad and establish himself as a world-class creator at one of the most successful clubs in the Premier League.
