Forget Fekir – Here are 2 top-class alternatives who will perfectly fit Klopp’s system at Liverpool

Liverpool managed to sign Fabinho quite smoothly but their pursuit of Lyon captain Nabil Fekir appears to have hit a roadblock.

A £53m deal was agreed between the two clubs but a suspected knee injury led the Reds to renegotiate. However, Lyon chairman Jean-Michel Aulus pulled the plug on the deal and Fekir will stay put for the time being.

The Reds, meanwhile, must find alternatives to fill the void left behind by Philippe Coutinho’s departure. They need a creative midfielder who is capable of pulling the strings behind the front trio and here are two players who could work wonders for Liverpool.

Julian Draxler

Age: 24

Country: Germany

Current Club: Paris Saint-Germain

Once upon a time, Draxler was a prime transfer target for Jurgen Klopp. He, however, rejected the Reds and decided to join Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain.

Liverpool, meanwhile, have secured consecutive Champions League berths since their failed attempt to bring in the midfield attacker. And now, with the Reds’ recent European resurgence, Draxler might be tempted to move.

The player has struggled to secure a first-team slot at PSG and a potential move to Liverpool would certainly boost his chances of clocking regular minutes. Draxler can either be used as an attacking midfielder or a winger. His accuracy, pace, vision and passing traits make him a like-for-like replacement for Coutinho.

Hakim Ziyech

Age: 25

Country: Morocco

Current Club: Ajax

Ziyech is an incredibly versatile attacker and has emerged as a popular name among football fanatics in recent years.

The 25-year-old Ajax star has become one of their key resources since his move from FC Twente a couple of years back. After having proven his mettle in the Eredivisie, perhaps it is time for the Moroccan to move to a bigger league.

His technical abilities, set-piece skills and vision set him apart from his contemporaries. Ziyech prefers to operate in an attacking midfield role but like Draxler, he is capable of playing down the flanks as well.

Having chipped in with 9 goals and 15 assists in 34 Eredivisie outings last season, Ziyech could be a brilliant option for Liverpool.
