Forget Goretzka : Here Are 3 Quality Alternatives Arsenal Could Look To Sign In January

Here Are 3 Alternatives For Leon Goretzka Who Arsenal Can Target

Arsenal have been targeting Leon Goretzka for quite some time now but with the January window coming up, it might be a good idea for them to seek some alternatives as well. The Gunners have a fairly strong squad but they could use some reinforcements in the midfield area. Of late, they have had trouble transitioning from defending to attacking and an influential figure in the middle of the park could truly boost their performances in the upcoming days.
Goretzka can truly prove to be beneficial since he can play in a variety of positions and is a creative playmaker.

Hence, it comes as no surprise that he is considered to be one of the brightest talents to emerge out of Germany in recent years. That said, there are a number of clubs interested in him, which does make the situation worrisome for Arsenal since Arsene Wenger has not been the best at fighting off competition to sign new players.

Thus, if Arsenal miss out on signing Goretzka, here are 3 alternatives they could consider.

Jean Michael Seri – OGC Nice

Seri was in spectacular form for Nice last season and was a major reason behind the club’s good fortune, even though Mario Balotelli walked away with most of the praise. He is a productive and disciplined player on the field. Besides knowing how to establish his dominion over the midfield, Seri is also adept at scoring goals and providing assists. In fact, last season he scored 7 goals while providing 9 assists – which are impressive numbers for a central midfielder. His passing skills are quite top-notch as well, meaning he can slot into the Arsenal midfield with ease.

Sergej Milinkovic-Savic – Lazio

Milikovic-Savic has rightfully earned a reputation for being one of the most impressive young midfielders in Serie A for his prolific displays at Lazio. In fact, the youngster’s performances actually look quite similar to Goretzka’s. His creativity and pace in the middle could truly help Arsenal boost their performances. Moreover, he is also aerially sound and can prove to be quite handy in set-piece situations.

Joao Mario – Inter Milan

Mario has struggled to establish himself at the Italian club so far but there is no denying his talent. However, he was a revelation at Sporting and that in itself was a testament to his skills. Perhaps he needs the right team and the right manager to allow him the freedom to play his natural game. That said, the player is essentially an attacking midfielder but his exploits through the middle have been quite impressive. Hence, he could be a viable option worth considering for the Gunners.
