Forget It Guardiola: Why Manchester City Are Better Off Without This Contract-Rebel

Why Manchester City Are Better Off Without Arsenal Contract-Rebel Alexis Sanchez

The drama surrounding Arsenal contract-rebel Alexis Sanchez’s future refuses to die down. Over the summer, the player was expected to join Manchester City in a sensational deal but the move did not work out.

The Chilean has clearly been unhappy with the way things have worked out and it is reflecting in his performances. The Gunners’ inability of securing Champions League football did not bode well for the ambitious winger and a move to join City might materialize sometime in the near future should things go his way.

That said, there are a lot of other clubs that have been interested in signing a deal with him. After all, he is an immensely talented player and has the potential to massively boost a team’s attack with his creativity and goal-scoring skills. However, do City really need a player like Sanchez right now?

The Sky Blues started the season on a strong note and are showing no signs of slowing down. They are on a 16-game winning run in the Premier League and Pep Guardiola’s men have impressed fans and critics alike.

An out-and-out attack-oriented team, City have no dearth of attacking players to grace their front line. In fact, they have so many attacking options that a player like Sergio Aguero has to be sidelined now and then. Their current squad boasts of names like Raheem Sterling, Gabriel Jesus, David Silva, Kevin De Bruyne, Leroy Sane, Gabriel Jesus – and of course, Aguero.

Had Sanchez joined over the summer, Sterling may never have attained the level of success he has now. Guardiola was instrumental in bringing the best out of him last season but the Englishman has truly transformed into a confident individual talent in this campaign.

If Sanchez was a part of the club, Sterling may have had to act as his deputy, which would have again stunted his growth. That said, a similar situation could occur even if Guardiola signs the Arsenal star anytime in the near future. One of the young players would have to be dropped from the matchday squad to make room for Sanchez and that would be unnecessary considering the way they have performed so far.

There are other areas wherein City could sign reinforcements but as far as their attack is concerned, they look set to go for the next few months at least. Hence, if Sanchez is truly intent on leaving Arsenal, he is would be better off by joining a team that’s not Manchester City.
