Forget it Mou – Man United letting go of £290,000-a-week superstar could be a massive blunder

Why it would be a massive blunder by Mourinho to let Paul Pogba leave Manchester United

It has been a frantic final few weeks for Manchester United as the club endured a frustrating summer. Jose Mourinho’s men haven’t looked so good in the build-up to their opening day clash at home to Leicester City.

And now, shocking reports from Daily Mail suggests that midfielder Paul Pogba wants to leave the club. According to Daily Mail, the French World Cup winner is frustrated under Jose Mourinho and wants to enjoy his football elsewhere, with a move to Barcelona potentially on the cards.

Daily Mail understands that Barcelona have agreed to terms with the player over a £89.5million deal on a five-year contract. According to the report, Pogba, who currently earns £290,000-a-week, is excited to play alongside Lionel Messi and former teammate Arturo Vidal, who also recently joined the club.

Since the Frenchman’s world-record return to Manchester United two years ago, he has largely endured a stop-start life in the Premier League. This is due to the system that Pogba has been deployed in. Under Mourinho, the midfielder is often fielded in a restricted role, which requires him to play deeper in the midfield.

Pogba thrived for the World Cup winners in a more offensive role that saw the midfielder run the show for Les Bleus.

Their relationship seems to have deteriorated with Pogba now wanting to leave the club. The Frenchman’s potential and quality is clearly evident from his previous stints. It would be a massive blunder for Manchester United to offload the player a day before the transfer window shuts.

While the Red Devils will recoup a huge chunk of the money they have spent this summer, they will fail to subsequently replace the player. Though the manager signed Fred from Shakhtar Donetsk, Pogba’s departure would considerably weaken United’s stability in the midfield.

When the Portuguese manager chose to play the former Juventus midfielder in a more advanced role, like he did against Manchester City towards the second half of the season, the fans saw the real Pogba.

The 25-year-old scored a brace and took home the match ball, which is exactly what the manager should choose to do again. Losing the Frenchman at this stage will definitely cost the Red Devils their season.
