Forget it Zidane – Real Madrid offloading their precious 20-year-old talent would be their biggest transfer blunder

Real Madrid opinion: Is offloading Martin Odegaard a wise move?

According to a report from Marca, Bayer Leverkusen are set to capture Real Madrid’s young sensation, Martin Odegaard.

The Norwegian youngster has spent his loan spells with Heerenveen and Vitesse in Eredivisie for the past two seasons and Los Blancos are now willing to let go of their precious talent. Leverkusen have fended off Ajax in the pursuit of Odegaard.

Odegaard’s breakout season with Vitesse

The 20-year-old broke into the public’s eye with an excellent 2018/19 campaign with the Dutch outfit Vitesse. In the process, he racked up 11 goals and 12 assists in all competitions.

And his cluster of good performances earned him a place in the Eredivisie team of the year. Primarily an attacking midfielder, Odegaard is also comfortable on the wings and Vitesse manager Leonid Slutsky deployed him as a right-winger.

Real Madrid doing a big mistake by offloading Odegaard

The Galacticos might have an explosive squad as of now because of the marquee signings they made in recent times, but it doesn’t mean that they have to brush off the young talents like Odegaard, who is poised for a great future.

Though he looked less-competent in his initial years, he has improved by leap and bounds during his time in Netherlands.

Amidst a swarm of Eredivisie stars, Odegaard looked a class apart with eye-catching stats in the previous season. He has averaged 3 dribbles per game with around 4 key passes, which indicates he is a big playmaker in the making.

Despite his tender age, Odegaard has already earned 18 senior-team caps for Norway and he scored his first goal in the recent Euro Qualifiers game against Romania.

My Verdict

The Galacticos are determined to return back to their formal state after they suffered an underwhelming campaign which saw them walk away with no silverware.

Whilst they have gone crazy in the transfer window with a flurry of new signings, they should also be ready to blood young talents, who hold the key for Madrid’s long-term future.
