Forget Joao Mario – Why This World-class Arsenal Midfielder Will Be Perfect For Inter Milan

Mesut Ozil

How Can I Assist You?  – Why Mesut Ozil Will Be A Good Signing For Inter Milan

Mesut Ozil has been linked with an exit from Arsenal for quite some time now. Several European clubs have been interested in securing his signature, but now Inter Milan have also entered the fray.

Fans and critics alike, are often of the opinion that perhaps the Gunners could benefit if Ozil exits the club. As seen from previous matches, the German is extremely creative but he is not flexible enough in terms of his position.

The playmaker has often been criticised for his performances in big games and many fans have been left frustrated by his so called ‘poor work-rate’. With a sword dangling over Arsene Wenger’s future at the club (has been for few years now but it seems never-ending), the manager could benefit from letting Ozil leave and purchasing a quality playmaker with the money that he may receive.

Now that we have established his move could benefit Arsenal, let’s take a look at whether or not it will benefit Ozil – especially if he moves to Inter Milan. The Italian club are being heavily linked with signing Ozil of late, and a move could be on the cards.

It is understood that Inter are targeting Ozil with a view to replace Joao Mario in the Nerazzurri midfield. Although his transfer was extremely hyped, Mario is not making the cut.

He was supposed to be the creative No. 10 at Inter but his lack of creativity has been quite evident in a lot of their matches. In that aspect, Ozil does seem like a better option.

In Luciano Spalletti’s 4-2-3-1, the playmaker usually sits behind the striker, making him crucial at penetrating deeply-defensive sides. Even though Ozil occasionally dribbles, he is more inclined to passing the ball rather than running with it.

Also, unlike Joao Mario, he very rarely attempts long shots on goal. Ozil is a true-blue central playmaker, the kind that can elevate the 4-2-3-1 system. He can also get Icardi into better goal scoring situations – something that Mario has been failing to do so.

Thus, it seems like Ozil can benefit Inter Milan. Their style of play seems to suit his abilities more than Arsenal’s current 3-4-2-1. However, if at all Inter sign Ozil, they would do well by retaining Mario. The Italians will need some quality depth to be able to compete for a spot in the Champions League next season.
