Forget Lovren – Here Are 3 Quality Replacements That Liverpool Can Target
One of the biggest problems Liverpool have faced has been their inability to manage themselves at the back. With the team leaking goals, the Reds have to find an able replacement for Dejan Lovren, who has been error-prone ever since he joined the club. While they may have mitigated some of the damage by signing Van Dijk, there are still a lot of issues that need some sorting in the back.
Here are three players that Liverpool could sign in order to find more stability in the back:
Stefan De Vrij
Van Dijk’s international colleague, De Vrij plays for Lazio but is nearing the end of his contract at the conclusion of this current year. Should De Vrij look to make a move outside the Serie A, he must consider Liverpool as a logical move for his next step. They are a huge club with a lot of young players and he will also get to work with Van Dijk in the domestic circuit, which could strengthen their bond while playing for the Netherlands.
De Vrij has been linked with a move to Inter Milan as well but he should seriously consider a move to Liverpool.
James Tarkowski
One of Burnley’s star performers in the Premier League, Tarkowski is a player who Liverpool should move for in the summer. The English defender is 4th in the list of most clearances and blocks made in the league this season and even earned himself an international call-up.
Liverpool must consider a move for the defender as he’s been instrumental in ensuring they finished in the top-half of the table. Whether or not he can adapt to Liverpool’s possession-based style of play remains to be seen but he is a gamble they should consider taking.
Benjamin Pavard
Not a very popular name but Pavard has shown he has the credentials to play big when required. The Frenchman has a lot of potential and has started every game for Stuttgart this season, at the age of 22. While he plays at centre-back for Stuttgart, he can play across the backline, as demonstrated by his ability when playing on the international stage.
Pavard has signed a deal with Stuttgart that runs up to 2021 and Liverpool might have to shell out a lot of money in order to get him. However, if he does live up to the potential he displays, they could have a bargain at hand.
