Forget Lukaku – 3 Alternate Targets Manchester United Must Pursue This Summer

One of the biggest transfers that could take place in the summer window is that of Romelu Lukaku. The 22-year-old Belgian has been the one player who has done incredibly well for Everton and he has spoken of his wishes to play in the Champions League.

Manchester United have been one of the teams that has been linked with a bid for the Belgian attacker but they could be priced out of the deal or worse, they might not even make it into the Champions League next term which would ensure that Lukaku would not come to this Manchester club at least.

United need to have a good replacement for Wayne Rooney as the likes of Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial are still learning their trade. We look at three alternatives for Lukaku who could be United’s next big striker.

Jackson Martinez-

This name might seem to be a shock to some thinking as to how the Colombian left Atletico Madrid to move to the Chinese Super League. Martinez, 29 at the moment, could still make a move back to a big club.

Martinez has all the traits to make it big in the Premier League. He has the strength, pace and finishing to match Lukaku even if he does not have age on his side. We have seen the likes of Carlos Tevez do well in a tough league and well he could be bought at a cut price next season.

Alexandre Lacazette-

The French striker decided not to leave his beloved Lyon at the start of this season as he wanted to play more European football but the club will not be challenging for any glory any time soon thanks to PSG’s dominance.

The 24-year-old has scored just 18 goals this season, a far cry from the 31 he bagged last time around and maybe a change in scenery would be the best thing for the French striker. Lacazette probably is one of the best finishers in the game, he might not be gifted with incredible pace but he can create chances with his movement and that could be of great value to any club, even to Manchester United.

Alvaro Morata-

The man might be doing a great job at Juventus but each time he has a good game, Paulo Dybala seems to be the one who gets all the plaudits. Morata though is a great asset and he may be willing to move away to a club where he is given more importance.

Morata might not be the fastest player in the world but he does have ability to link up with other players really well and also has excellent movement. The 23-year-old doesn’t hit the back of the next all the time but he could form a great partnership with someone who has incredible pace such as Anthony Martial, but would Manchester United be willing to spend the big bucks on signing any of them?

That is the big question but one of these three could well propel Manchester United to the next level, which is competing for the Premier League title.
