Forget Mandanda: Here Are 2 Quality Replacements Crystal Palace Should Look To Sign Including This West Ham Ace

Two Replacements For Steve Mandanda Who Crystal Palace Can Target

Crystal Palace have allowed goalkeeper Steve Mandanda to re-join former club Marseille (Daily Mail). The 32-year old Frenchman joined the Eagles only last summer, on a free transfer, but had to endure an injury-hit campaign.

Having started as the No.1 under former boss Alan Pardew, an injury saw him lose his place to Wayne Hennessey in the line-up and following Sam Allardyce’s appointment in December last year, he never made it back to the starting XI. This seems to have frustrated the 24-time capped French international and he made his desire of leaving the club quite clear. Mandanda has got his wishes now, with the Eagles getting rid of him for an undisclosed fee.

This leaves the club with just two options in goal – Hennessey and club legend Julian Speroni, who made only two cup appearances last season. New manager Frank de Boer will definitely bring in a new custodian in the summer and here are two goalkeepers that Palace should consider signing.

Tim Krul (Newcastle United)

The 29-year old Newcastle United goalkeeper is likely to be sold in the summer, with Magpies boss Rafael Benitez keen on bringing in a new face in that position. And the fact that Krul was left out of Newcastle’s pre-season training tour to Dublin hints that he is almost certainly not a part of the manager’s plans.

Krul spent last season away on loan at AFC Ajax, but returned in January after making just 6 appearances for the reserve team and was loaned out to AZ Alkmaar for the rest of the season, where he made 22 appearances and managed to keep 4 clean sheets.

The Dutch international has been a long servant of the Magpies, having been with the club since 2005 and has gathered years of top level experience. Over 150 appearances in the Premier League and a proven goalkeeper in both domestic and international circuits, Krul will be an excellent addition for Palace. And with just a year left on his contract, Krul is also likely to come in for a cheap price.

Darren Randolph (West Ham United)

The Republic of Ireland No.1 may find himself looking for a new club, as West Ham United have captured Joe Hart from Manchester City on loan. The England No.1 has successfully completed a move to the Hammers.

Randolph joined the Hammers in the summer of 2015 from Birmingham City, but wasn’t able to establish himself in his first season. However, he was preferred over Adrian, by manager Slaven Bilic last campaign, where he made 22 league appearances, keeping 4 clean sheets. Randolph wasn’t exactly a modicum of consistency between the sticks last time around, but did put in some exceptional performances.

A full international with Republic of Ireland, Randolph has been capped 21 times for his national team and he wouldn’t want to risk losing his spot by being on the bench in London. He could turn out to be a more than an able backup to Hennessey and Palace should target him.
