Forget Mustafi: 3 Quality Replacements Arsenal Could Sign Including This Liverpool Target

Three Replacements For Shkodran Mustafi Who Arsenal Can Target

Shkodran Mustafi has been at Arsenal for only one season. He arrived from Valencia for a huge fee of around £35million, having impressed at the Spanish club and Sampdoria before that. He was a youth prospect at Everton before lack of chances there lead to him being shipped off to Italy. Having sold Gabriel to Valencia, Wenger recently could not confirm whether Mustafi would be staying at the club.

Inter Milan have been credited with an interest in him. That only leaves Arsenal with 4 central defenders; Per Mertesacker, Rob Holding, Sead Kolasinac and Calum Chambers. Under such circumstances, it is obvious that Arsene Wenger will be looking to dip into the transfer market for defensive additions.

Here are 3 Shkodran Mustafi/Gabriel Paulista replacements that Arsene Wenger should try to sign –

Virgil Van Dijk

It has been reported that Arsenal have been handed a major boost in pursuit of the Dutch international as Southampton have agreed to negotiate a deal with Walcott traveling in the opposite direction. Van Dijk has been an ever-present in the Saints defence since his move from Celtic, where he was a stalwart as well.

He has established himself as one of the best defenders in the Premier League in recent seasons and would suit Arsenal very well. His height and experience would suit Arsenal’s style of play, especially since he is also a ball playing defender that can pig the ball out of defence. He hasn’t made an appearance in a Saints shirt this term, with him being stubborn and insistent on a move out of the club.

Inigo Martinez

Barcelona and Manchester City have been linked with a move for the Real Sociedad man who has impressed at his club for quite a few seasons now. The 26-year old defender has a €32million release clause in his contract and that would suit the Gunners well.

He would suit the team well despite being only 5’11, as he is a left-footed ball playing centre-back that can bring the ball out of defence. Despite having Kolasinac at the club, Arsenal could do with the signing of Inigo Martinez who can bring something different to the Arsenal back-line. His ability to play at left-back as well, is an added bonus.

Presnel Kimpembe

Kimpembe is a talent that could be tempted by more game time. The Paris Saint Germain defender has found the going tough despite getting decent playing time. His progress has been halted by big money signings that has affected his career.

The prospect of working under French maestro Arsene Wenger will be relished by the young Kimpembe. Wenger has always liked nurturing young French talents and so it’s a match made in heaven. His ability to slot in at left-back would help the Gunners too.
