Three Replacements For Saido Berahino Who Stoke Can Target
Stoke City have clearly been struggling for goals this season, and their first choice striker, Saido Berahino is yet to score a competitive goal for the Potters since his arrival from West Brom in January 2016.
It’s been more than 580 days since the 24-year-old scored a goal with his last goal coming in February of 2016 for the Baggies. Stoke manager has been worried about the English striker and admitted that he has been going through a rough patch.
Saido Berahino looked set to get his first goal as a Stoke player last week but failed to convert his penalty against Southampton. 36-year-old Peter Crouch came on to replace him in the second half and scored the winner late in the game.
Mark Hughes simply cannot continue to depend on a 36-year-old to get his side the goals and must bring in a replacement for the misfiring Saido Berahino. Let’s take a look at three possible replacements for Saido Berahino.
Danny Ings
The 25-year-old English striker was at his peak when joined Liverpool in 2015, but a series of ACL injuries have disrupted his progress. However, the England international has recovered from long-term injuries and is now available to play. Klopp is currently not considering the 25-year-old for first-team action and could be the perfect addition to Stoke City.
Ings is immensely talented and some regular football under Mark Hughes could help him get back to his best.
Dwight Gayle
The 26-year-old striker has barely featured for Newcastle United this season, with Rafael Benitez preferring Ayoze Perez over the English striker. Despite an impressive season in the Championship last season, Gayle has struggled to get into the first team.
Gayle scored 23 goals in just 32 appearances last season and played a crucial role in Newcastle’s return to the Premier League. Stoke City could definitely use a player like Gayle who is quick on his feet and has plenty of experience.
Tammy Abraham
The 20-year-old Swansea striker who is currently on loan from Chelsea has been regularly featuring for the Swans and has 3 goals from 7 appearances in the Premier League this season. Abraham had a spectacular campaign with Bristol City last season, scoring 26 goals in 48 appearances.
Having signed a 5-year deal with Chelsea before before making his loan move to Swans, Abraham could cost Stoke quite a bit of money if they want him. But the English forward is definitely a prospect for the future and should be worth it.
