Forget Thomas Vermaelen – Here Are 3 Super Alternatives Liverpool Should Look To Sign

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is currently exploring his defensive options with a hunt for a center back as an alternative to Klavan or Matip. The Reds were closely linked and had apparently made a formal offer for the former Arsenal center back Thomas Vermaelen and the arrival of the former Gunners skipper was looking almost certain. However, just like it has happened many times in this transfer season, this deal did not work out for the Reds as Vermaelen chose Italy as his destination and joined AS Roma on loan. This did come as a blow for the Merseyside club as the team was hopeful of getting a center forward on board who has experience of playing in the premier league. However, now Klopp will again have to consider alternatives for the center back and according to us, these three alternatives look good at the moment.

Jonathan Tah

The towering defender who plays for the German club Bayer Leverkusen looks as an interesting option for Liverpool at the moment. He has been featuring regularly for his side and has maintained consistency in terms of his fitness and his game. He was also called upon by Joaquim Loew as a backup option for Hummels and Boateng in the German line-up for the Euros. The 20-year old who does not have too much experience under his name is certainly a promising player and can prove to be a good fit at Anfield.

Javier Mascherano

Many would not agree to this option but at the moment, Mascherano looks like a player who would not come at a hefty fee and is also fit enough to feature in many games. The former Liverpool player knows the English league really well and has been an integral part of the Liverpool team under Rafa Benitez. His experience of playing in the La Liga can also be put to value here.

Dante

The 32-year-old Brazilian defender also looks like an interesting option for the center back role as he has a vast experience of playing in the Bundesliga. However, the English league is much more competitive as compared to the Bundesliga but the defensive abilities that Dante possesses will definitely make him an asset for the club. Also, he is known to play as a left back and a defensive midfielder if needed and Liverpool are in need of players for both these positions. Considering this, Dante looks like a really valuable utility player.
