A Fair Deal? – Why Arsenal Should Happily Accept Cash+Sterling For Alexis Sanchez

Alexis Sanchez has been reluctant to sign a new contract at Arsenal. His presence in Arsenal’s recent game didn’t bear fruits as the team lost 4-0 to Liverpool. Manchester City have been linked with a move for him with a bid of £50million being rejected by the Gunners. Arsenal thus far have been quite clear about holding on to Sanchez, refusing to let him join a direct rival like Manchester City.

The Chilean has done wonders at Arsenal since his move from Barcelona. Scoring, making goals, he’s been at the thick of it. Arsenal, as usual, have been unable to hold on to their star players, allowing their contracts to run down to the final year and then involve themselves in hurried negotiations to hold on to their players.

This season as well, the likes of Mesut Ozil, Alex-Oxlade Chamberlain and Alexis Sanchez himself have been the sufferers as the Arsenal board have failed to negotiate contracts to tie them down to the club. Sanchez has demanded an exorbitant wage of £400,000-a-week and this is something Arsenal are unable to afford.

Manchester City, on the other hand, can easily afford such a pay-cheque and have been hot on the heels of Alexis Sanchez ever since the transfer window opened this summer. With just a day to go in the window, Arsenal must look to act soon or they risk losing him for free at the start of the next season.

There is a suggestion that Raheem Sterling could be involved in a deal to takes Alexis Sanchez to The Etihad Stadium. The Gunners could hugely benefit from such a deal as they are lacking attacking impetus up front, having not scored a goal in their last 2 games.

Losing Sanchez to a direct rival would undoubtedly be a big loss, but Raheem Sterling would boost the English quota on the Arsenal side of things. Manchester City have invested huge money in the defensive areas and haven’t yet brought in an attacking option. The signing of Alexis Sanchez would be a huge boost for them and the fans.

Arsenal have only brought in Alexandre Lacazette as an attacking option. Having a rotten/rotting apple like Alexis Sanchez in the dressing room would be a bad influence on the other players and Arsenal must look to fix the situation at the soonest by either tying him down to a deal or selling him to Manchester City for cash plus the arrival of Raheem Sterling.

A swap deal involving cash should please the Gunners well as they look to fix a bad start to the season. Despite Sterling scoring late in The Citizens’ game against Bournemouth, he could be sent out the door at City, to accommodate the arrival of Alexis Sanchez. Therefore, a swap deal involving cash would suit all the parties at best.
