Go For It Carvalhal – Signing Atletico’s £18m striker would solve Swansea’s goalscoring woes

Is Kevin Gameiro The Right Choice To Address Swansea’s Goalscoring Concerns?

Bottom-placed Swansea City are reportedly edging closer to a move for Atletico Madrid star Kevin Gameiro. With Carlos Carvalhal in charge, the Swans are determined to dig deep and do some good business this January and Gameiro is understood to be one of their priority targets. At present, they seem like one of the clubs most likely to get relegated and climbing out of that spot will prove to be an uphill battle for sure.

They made a lukewarm start to the current season but things went from bad to worse as days progressed. Soon, they found themselves struggling at the bottom of the table and that led to Paul Clement’s sacking from the club. Carvalhal does seem like a more dynamic choice in contrast but it remains to be seen how he’d affect the club and whether or not he would be able to bring them out of the dredges of relegation.

However, their current focus has to be on bringing in some fresh recruits and bolstering their attack has got to be their number one priority. To that extent, Gameiro does seem like an interesting target. At 30 years of age, the £18m man has a wealth of experience and has proven to be a reliable player at the Wanda Metropolitano. This season, he has managed to chip in with 6 goals and an assist, having made 14 appearances across competitions for the Spanish side.

Known for his blistering pace in the final third, Gameiro could add value to a struggling Swansea side. Also, Atletico are likely to be willing to sanction a deal since they will be on the lookout to balance the books after breaking the bank to sign Diego Costa.

Moreover, with the former Chelsea star in their ranks, it might be a good choice for the France striker to seek his options elsewhere. A move to Swansea could provide him with adequate game time while also giving him a clean slate to start afresh.

Hence, Carvalhal must definitely make a move for Gameiro. He will cost more but he is one of the better options in the market at present. Also, his pace and skills have shown no signs of decline, thus making him the ideal solution to rectify their problems in the front right now. Whether or not Swansea are able to preserve their Premier League status remains to be seen but signing Gameiro could get them one step closer to doing so.
