Go for it Conte – 2 attackers Chelsea should sign this January to solve their goalscoring conundrum

Antonio Conte

Two Attackers Chelsea Must Sign That Can Guarantee Instant Goals This January

Premier League defending champions Chelsea have endured lukewarm fortunes this season so far. They lost their opening day match against Burnley and from then on, it has just been a series of never-ending ups and downs for the club. They enjoyed some emphatic victories but also had to succumb to some embarrassing defeats. The Blues recently notched up a win via penalties against Norwich City in the FA Cup but they are yet to get back to winning ways in the league after registering a couple of draws.

Although manager Antonio Conte has managed to sign Ross Barkley this January, there is no denying that the London-based club are in dire need of attacking reinforcements. At present, there is a lot of pressure on Alvaro Morata since he has to play all Champions League matches as well as the ones in the domestic league. It is impossible for any player to do so without receiving adequate rest and the exhaustion has clearly affected his form lately.

The former Real Madrid star has been struggling for goals to an extent. Ever since Diego Costa infamously left the club over the summer, Chelsea have not been in the best shape. Conte is known to be quite vocal and passionate and maybe not always in the best sense. The manager’s relationship with Costa was badly affected which prompted the player to make such a hasty exit. Now, a similar situation seems to be brewing with veteran centre-back David Luiz, whose departure also looks likely.

There are a lot of internal problems that Chelsea need to solve but they now need to bring in new recruits to solve their goalscoring problems. Here are two attackers the Blues could consider bringing to Stamford Bridge this January.

Thomas Lemar – AS Monaco

Lemar has been subjected to a lot of interest from the Premier League since last summer and this could be the ideal time for the Blues to make a move. They have been linked with the Frenchman in recent times and considering their dearth of attacking options at present, the club could use a player like Lemar. Even when Morata plays, he does not receive adequate support from his teammates and the Monaco ace could prove to be a viable option. His lethal, attacking plays have thrust him into the spotlight and there is no reason why he cannot replicate that at the Bridge.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang – Borussia Dortmund

Chelsea did harbour an interest in him and considering all the internal problems he is facing with Dortmund, this seems like the right time for the Blues to pounce upon and make a move. He is a proven goalscorer and could relieve some of the pressure off Morata.

One might argue that it is unnecessary to purchase a striker when they already have the Spaniard but in doing so, Conte will have greater tactical flexibility as well. Deploying Hazard and Morata together up front has yielded mixed results so far but he could use Aubameyang and Morata in a similar formation if the club did sign him.
