Go for it Emery – Arsenal must do everything to land this £13m set-piece specialist this summer

A report from The Mirror has credited Arsenal with showing an interest in CSKA Moscow star Aleksandr Golovin. The 22-year-old has also attracted attention from Juventus, following his spectacular display during Russia’s opening game at the World Cup.

The host nation faced Saudi Arabia in their first game and they put in a fine display to beat the Asian nation 5-0. The result has undoubtedly set the tone for Russia in the World Cup and it has also propelled Golovin to greater fame and recognition.

The Mirror claims Juventus are willing to shell out a fee in the region of £13m plus add-ons to secure his signature and this could pose trouble for Arsenal. The midfielder’s value will only rise from here on and it is important for the Gunners to act fast.

Aleksandr Golovin

New Arsenal manager Unai Emery has adopted an aggressive approach in the ongoing transfer window so far, but it is of utmost importance for him to secure a deal for the talented Golovin. His displays have been immensely convincing and he could be a key player for Arsenal in the seasons to come.

Golovin is a highly technical player, who boasts an excellent passing range and ability. He is a constant threat during free-kicks and he also has a flair for creativity which proves to be quite helpful in terms of goalscoring.

Over the years, strikers at Arsenal have often been starved of decent aerial service. And the way Golovin assisted the likes of Yury Gazinsky and Artem Dzyuba against Saudi Arabia is enough proof of his skills.

Ever since Alexis Sanchez left the Gunners for Manchester United in January, their threat from set-piece situations has diminished to a great extent. And signing Golovin would not only solve that problem but also create a nice outlet for goals and power in the middle of the park.

Furthermore, with Jack Wilshere’s contract set to expire in a matter of weeks, it goes without saying that there will be a void in Arsenal’s midfield. And to fill that void with an intelligent player like Golovin would a step in the right direction for the north London club.

Thus, Emery must do everything he can to convince the promising Russian to join the Gunners this summer. It might be tough for him to say no to Juventus but Arsenal must do everything they can to ensure they do not go down without a fight.
