Go for it Farke – Norwich signing this 28-year-old Cape Verdean would get them the ultimate Plan B for Teemu Pukki

Norwich City Opinion: Why Farke should go for Nuno da Costa in the summer

Teemu Pukki is flying in Norwich City colours at the moment, banging goals left, right and centre. He has scored 23 goals and provided six assists in 30 Championship appearances for Norwich so far this season.

The Finnish international is now the top scorer in the Championship, having joined Norwich on a free in the summer. Pukki has been one of the chief reasons why the Canaries are top of the Championship table and are favourites to be promoted.

Daniel Farke has done a fantastic job by building the Norwich squad and making them real firm favourites for promotion.

But as the Canaries continue to do well in the second division and inch closer towards their goal with every passing week, Farke should start planning on summer transfers from now onwards.

One area the Norwich City boss should target is a forward to complement Pukki in the next season, provided the Finnish striker stays at the club.

The Canaries lack depth as far as options in the strike department are concerned; Jordan Rhodes is on a season-long loan from Sheffield Wednesday, while Carlton Morris remains out injured.

Nelson Oliveira made a loan move to Reading in January after failing to make a single appearance this season. Hence, Norwich’s need for another striker is paramount and Farke should make a move for RC Strasbourg star Nuno da Costa in summer.

Nuno da Costa, 28, started his career with Aubagne FC before moving to Valenciennes in 2015. After a couple of decent seasons with Valenciennes, he signed for Strasbourg in 2017.

The Cape Verdean could only manage five goals and three assists in his debut season at Strasbourg as the club finished 15th on the table. The 28-year-old has starred in the Ligue 1 this season with five goals and four assists.

Capable of operating as a centre-forward or on the right wing, Nuno da Costa’s greatest asset is his pace and ability to run behind defences, particularly against opposition that play a high defensive line.

The one-time Cape Verde international likes to take on defenders and beat them with his pace, while his clever movement off the ball allows him to get into scoring positions inside the box.

Conclusion

At 28, Da Costa is playing at the prime of his career and would be a welcome addition to Norwich’s squad in the summer.

Norwich City are likely to play in the Premier League next season and they’ll definitely need more firepower in their attack. And Da Costa, with his finish ability and movement, can certainly take the Canaries to greater heights.
