Go for it Farke – This £15m-rated veteran PL goalkeeper is capable of single-handedly saving games for Norwich City

Norwich City opinion: Should the Canaries sign Simon Mignolet?

According to a report from The Eastern Daily Press, Norwich City are set to battle it out with Bournemouth and Watford for the signing of Liverpool’s Belgian shot-stopper Simon Mignolet in the summer.

The report reveals that the Reds will not allow him to leave if their £15 million valuation of their keeper is not met which could prove to be a massive stumbling block in the Canaries’ pursuit of him.

Mignolet’s position at Anfield as the first-choice has taken a hit since the arrival of Alisson Becker last summer. The Brazilian has been a dream signing for the Reds and has broken the record for the most number of clean sheets in a Premier League season with 20.

With Alisson’s incredible season for the Reds, Mignolet’s chances of regular game time is bare minimum and a move away from Anfield looks highly likely in the summer transfer window.

Norwich’s interest in the former Sunderland goalkeeper comes in as a shock especially after how good Tim Krul had been in the title-winning season in the Championship. However, Krul has had his fair share problems in the top-flight before and Daniel Farke is absolutely right to look for an upgrade in the summer.

The Canaries’ main objective on their return to the Premier League will be to stay there and reinforcements are an absolute necessity. Norwich should start from the back and Simon Mignolet could turn out to be a really smart move.

Mignolet’s Liverpool career has gradually gone downhill since his move from Sunderland back in 2013. The 31-year-old has without doubt been at fault for a number of goals conceded by the Reds but he has also been made the scapegoat for some lacklustre defending by his teammates over the years.

Mignolet is in all fairness a very good goalkeeper who uses his 6 feet 4 inches frame to brilliant effect. His shot-stopping is top drawer and with regular game time and a return of his confidence, the Belgian can come back to his very best next season.

Conclusion

Amidst all the negatives over the last two years, Simon Mignolet is still a fine goalkeeper. The Belgian needs regular game time to regain his form and once he does, he could single-handedly save games for Norwich next season if they manage to sign him.
