Go for it Heckingbottom – This £900k Swansea striker would be perfect for Leeds United

Oliver McBurnie

Why Leeds United and Oliver McBurnie Would Be A Match Made In Heaven

Oliver McBurnie stands out on a football pitch, whether it is his turned down socks or his size and build, the former Bradford City striker cuts a unique figure on the field. The Swansea City player is currently on loan at Barnsley and was recently awarded the player of the month award for February.

McBurnie is a Yorkshire born boy and has already played for both Bradford and Barnsley but the current rumours linking him to Leeds would take him back to the city where he was born.

Leeds themselves are in a sticky situation at the moment, and only managed a draw against a struggling Reading and perhaps a player like McBurnie could have made the difference with their current striker Pierre-Michel Lasogga looking out of form. It is certainly an option for Paul Heckingbottom to consider this summer.

McBurnie has scored 5 goals in 7 appearances for a struggling Barnsley and his goals are keeping the Yorkshire club above water in their fight for Championship survival.

The explosive £900k-rated striker was particularly impressive against Birmingham where the young striker got a brace and could have had a hat-trick were it not for an excellent penalty save by David Stockdale in Birmingham City goal. That day, he showed all the good attributes in his game, he managed to find acres of space in the Birmingham box when others could not.

McBurnie signed for Swansea in July 2015 and promptly joined Newport County on loan, where he announced his arrival by scoring a hat-trick as a 58th-minute substitute on his debut. After scoring a brace on his Swansea debut in the EFL Cup, McBurnie made an impact on the Swansea team earlier this season as he played 11 games in the league before moving to Barnsley in January.

McBurnie has already made an impact at international level, playing for Scotland’s U21 team and if he keeps playing this way, he will be in the thoughts of new Scotland manager Alex McLeish. At a tender age of 21, the future for Oliver McBurnie does seem bright but the question of where he will end up next season will be on everyone’s lips.

He has a contract until the end of next season, but if he continues to sit on the sidelines for Swansea, he may want to make his way to a different club and his hometown club may just be the right fit for a player of Oliver McBurnie’s obvious talent.
