Go for it Hodgson – Crystal Palace would be able to solve their goalscoring crisis by signing this talented Genoa star in the summer

Crystal Palace Opinion: Christian Kouamé can be the next Eagles star

According to reports from Italian News outlet Calcio Mercato, Crystal Palace are interested in Genoa forward Christian Kouamé to Selhurst Park and could make a move for him at the end of the current season as they try to solve a key issue in front of the goal.

Crystal Palace have certainly had quite the mixed bag of seasons and while it hasn’t been all bad, there were certain points during the campaign where it looked like they were losing a grip of things really.

They are currently in a respectable-looking 13th place but the reality of their situation is that even from that position, they are only 3 points away from Southampton, who are 18th. A single loss accompanied by unfavourable results for the rivals could see them drop down into the relegation zone.

Despite having talented players like Wilfried Zaha and Andros Townsend, the injury to Christian Benteke has hit them hard. While the January addition of Michy Batshuayi will help their cause, they have missed that killer instinct in front of the goal.

This is clear when their attacking stats are looked at. They’ve scored just 27 times in 26 league games which is the worst record for all the teams in the top-15 of the Premier League. This has affected their ambitions drastically and the only solution is to import a top quality striker who can rejuvenate this rather tired looking Palace attack.

With the commencement of the summer window, Palace should be looking at pacy forwards who can be used a target man in Roy Hodgson’s favourite system. Holding up the ball is another key attribute that a Palace attacker needs so as to bring predators like Zaha and Townsend into the game.

As suggested by Calciomercato, the Eagles are said to have set their eyes on Genoa’s Ivorian prodigy Christian Kouamé. His skill-set seems to perfectly match the requirement at Selhurst Park and if it’s completed, could come with massive positive implications.

The 21-year-old is a pacy forward who likes to get on the ball and make things happen around him. His ability to hold up the play will be immense to any Premier League side while his eye for goal when inside the box is matched by his ability to finish.

He is a mobile forward who will get around the pitch and work hard for the team. He played a massive part in Krzysztof Piątek’s development as well with the duo setting each other up on multiple occasions.

He has played 24 times for Genoa in Serie A this season and has contributed with 5 goals and 4 assists.

The stats heavily underplay his immense ability and he is still a hidden gem waiting to be discovered. There’s no questioning the youngster’s future as it’s certainly bright but if he was to make the switch to Selhurst Park in the summer, his time to shine could be just around the corner.
