Go for it Klopp – Liverpool should do everything possible to land this £14.4m custodian

Alisson Becker

Why Liverpool Must Go All Out To Sign Alisson Becker In The Summer Window

Liverpool have been linked with a move for AS Roma goalkeeper Alisson Becker for the longest time now and if latest reports are to believed, the club will have to shell out quite a hefty amount to land him in the upcoming summer window. They were expected to sign him in the recently concluded January window but the move did not materialise. However, given the dire requirement at Anfield, Jurgen Klopp is prepared to reconsider a move for him in the summer and based on Becker’s skills, Klopp must most definitely go all out to acquire his signature.

At present, the Reds have three goalkeepers at hand – Simon Mignolet, Loris Karius and Danny Ward. While Mignolet was utilised as the first-choice keeper, Karius was deployed mainly in the Champions League matches and Ward was supposed to take care of the League Cup matches.

Unfortunately for the club, all the meticulous planning has not yielded positive results so far. Mignolet and Karius have been painfully underwhelming throughout the season and it is obvious that Klopp needs to let either one of them leave in order to make room for Becker.

At present, the £14.4m-rated Alisson is regarded as one of the best goalkeepers in the Serie A but he played an inconspicuous role for the longest time. Furthermore, it is important to note that the player is proficient enough to keep Ederson away from the Brazilian first-team, even though the latter has been so exceptional for Manchester City.

That is what he is capable of and Liverpool need a goalkeeper like him if they are to truly make a title challenge next season. Although Wojciech Szczesny kept him out of the team last season, Alisson has made the position his own ever since the former Gunner left to join Juventus.

Boasting of quick reflexes and shot-stopping ability, Alisson is quite tough to beat in one-on-one situations and he is quite effective with the ball at his feet as well. His passing skills are quite top-notch as well and he is quick with his distribution, meaning he can do a lot better than both Mignolet and Karius in the net. In fact, Alisson can prove to be quite an asset when the opposition presses high.

With Liverpool’s penchant for counter-attacking football, their defence can often get exposed and both Mignolet and Karius have struggled in such situations. However, from what we have seen so far, the Roma keeper does not sit around and wait. Instead, he can dominate the 18-yard area completely, thus making him a player Liverpool must go all out for in the summer window.
