Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool have a good chance of qualification for the Champions League next season but they will have to improve certain areas in their squad to compete with the best in Europe next season. The manager would be looking to bring in some quality player and two players who are now linked with a move to Anfield this summer are Real Madrid duo Marco Asensio and James Rodriguez. It looks like Zinedine Zidane, the Real Madrid manager might make wholesale changes at the Bernabeu and this might see him let the duo leave for the right price. It is understood that they could cost a combined £92m, but with Liverpool ready to spend big, the question would be if these are the players to take them to the next level? Here is why Liverpool should complete their signings to stand a chance at the title next season.
Both players have been on the fringes of the first team under Zidane this season but have been extremely productive in front of goal in their limited appearances. The Colombian attacker has 9 goals and 12 assists in 23 appearances in all competitions this season while 21-year-old Asensio has been a revelation, scoring 8 goals in just 11 starts for the Spanish outfit this season. Both players are versatile and can play a variety of positions and can solve more than one problems at Anfield.
Asensio, capable of playing in a midfield role can add to the likes of Adam Lallana and Georginio Wijnaldum as a part of the midfield three while also covering for the front three if needed. He can play on the wing in an advanced role and is more than capable of creating and finishing off chances for his side. He is strong, comfortable holding the ball up and this along with this dribbling abilities, make him a perfect fit for a Premier League club, and especially Liverpool.
Rodriguez, on the other hand, is an established international who is among the best in the business at the moment. He wants to play regularly at the highest level and with Real unable to use him in his natural position, he may well be looking to move out of the club in the summer. Capable of playing the number 10 role to perfection, Rodriguez can play in any of the midfield roles and can be a regular part of the midfield three or also play in a slightly attacking role for Liverpool.
He is an exceptional dribbler, an accurate passer, and an astonishing finisher. He has all the skills and tricks in the book that make him hard to handle and he can beyond doubt turn out to be a top class option for Liverpool. Though the two players would cost more than £90m this summer, the La Liga duo is one of the most versatile players available in the transfer market and if Klopp manages to sign them up, he will not have to worry about his midfield and attack for years to come. At 21 and 25, Asensio and Rodriguez are good options for the future too.
