Go For It Mourinho: January Raid To Sign Griezmann And Sessegnon Could Make Man United Unstoppable Once Again

Things are not working out for Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United in recent weeks following their derby defeat against high-flying neighbours Manchester City at Old Trafford and their latest League Cup quarter-final exit after being beaten by Championship outfit Bristol City and the frustrating 2-2 draw at the hands of Leicester have exposed a few things for the Red Devils ahead of the second-half of their 2017-18 campaign.

City are already 13 points ahead of them in the Premier League tally. His men have further failed to defend the League Cup title that they won last season. Although Mourinho is yet to give up the Premier League title chase, FA Cup remains the only realistic silverware that they can clinch this term, unless things change drastically ahead of their Champions League knockout outings.

Manchester United have been drawn against Sevilla in the Round of 16 of the prestigious European event and can be labelled as the favourites against the Spanish outfit to proceed through to the next round of the competition. However, a few things need to be sorted out ahead of the February clash and despite bringing in enough resources during the past few transfer windows, United still need to make at least a couple of inclusions next month when the window reopens in winter.

Ryan Sessegnon

If latest reports are believed to be true, the Red Devils are keen to recruit Fulham teenager Ryan Sessegnon who has been a prime transfer target of several English heavyweights since past few months. The 17-year-old English youth international has already appeared more than fifty times for the Cottagers in the Championship and earned a regular status in Slavisa Jokanovic’s side since last season.

United are set to offer a fee of £25m for the prodigy whom Mourinho rates quite highly as a long-term solution to his side’s left-back conundrum. Daley Blind has failed to earn the manager’s trust whereas Luke Shaw’s injury absence has only frustrated the ex-Chelsea boss. He has played Ashley Young in a makeshift left-back role and that helped him to bring back some stability down the left flank.

Sessegnon is one of England’s brightest prospects and despite signing a new long-term contract with his current employers, his transfer to Premier League is imminent and inevitable. The youngster is fluent in attack and has also been explored as a left wingback and also as a left winger. His versatility will offer more creativity for the Red Devils who have often looked mundane under the Portuguese gaffer.

Antoine Griezmann

Also, the presence of Romelu Lukaku up front has not offered much offensively in big games for United and a fit-again Zlatan Ibrahimovic needs time regain his momentum. The Swedish international is 36 already and is not expected to stay here at Manchester beyond next summer.

United thus need to find another world-class resource as his replacement and Frenchman Antoine Griezmann might just be the last piece of the jigsaw for the Red Devils. The current Atletico Madrid star has been a long-term transfer target for Manchester United but Barcelona are reportedly in advanced talks to acquire the attacker.

Meanwhile, the Rojiblancos have recently been furious with the Catalans for ‘tapping up’ their player which may have increased the odds for the English giants to seal a deal for the £88million hitman.

The presence of these two will certainly strengthen the Red Devils to achieve greater glory and a successful stint in Champions League football.
