Go for it Nuno Santo – Why Wolves must do everything to sign this £34m-rated AC Milan striker

Why Wolves Should Go All Out For The £34m-rated Andre Silva

Championship leaders Wolverhampton Wanderers were linked with a move to sign AC Milan striker Andre Silva in the recently concluded January window, by Express. Although the deal did not materialise then, the club could revive their interest in him in the summer, especially once they move into the top-flight. However, if they do so, they might face competition from AS Monaco and Valencia for the £34m-rated player, as per The Sun.

Despite being a flop show for a good majority of the season so far, Silva recently netted his first league goal for Milan. However, after failing to score in his previous league appearances this season, it is highly unlikely for the club to prevent him from leaving.

With Wolves ready to offer him an escape route, the striker might be tempted to move to the Premier League and ply his trade next season. A change in environment can work wonders and maybe he could do a lot better under Nuno Espirito Santo’s watchful eyes.

Also, Silva appears to have a strained relationship with Milan manager Gennaro Gattuso, with the manager even calling him a ‘foreign body in the team’, as per Calciomercato. His lacklustre displays have caused quite some issues there and in my opinion, that could be a major reason for Silva to prefer an exit over the summer.

Given the plethora of Portuguese players at the Midlands club right now, Silva is likely to fit right in. Wolves already have the likes of Ivan Cavaleiro, Helder Costa and Ruben Neves. Meanwhile, Diogo Jota is also expected to join in the upcoming summer window, according to Daily Mail, meaning Silva will have an advantage.

Once Wolves move into the Premier League, that is when their real challenge will start. The journey to seal promotion from the Championship has been a pleasant one for the club so far but once they rub shoulders with the big boys in the top-flight, they will need all hands on the deck.

As of now, they do have quite a few options in the striking department. The likes of Costa, Cavaleiro, Leo Bonatini, Jota and Rafa Mir have been quite decent but a player like Silva could provide tactical advantages as well as squad depth.

One might argue that he has had a disappointing season but that does not overshadow the fact that he is a player filled to the brim with potential. The former FC Porto star scored 21 times in his final campaign for the Portuguese giants. In addition to that, he has also scored 6 goals in 8 games in the Europa League this season (at the time of writing), even though his performances have been poor in the Serie A.

Hence, that should be more than enough proof of his capabilities and once Wolves get promoted to the top-flight, this is a player they must actively pursue.
