Why Tottenham Should Go All Out For Douglas Costa This Summer

Mauricio Pochettino has marshalled one of the most consistent teams in the Premier League in the last couple of seasons as he has managed to help his Tottenham Hotspur side to a second place finish last season. But the manager will know that he will have to make some serious additions to the squad this summer if he is to help his side compete for the title next season.

There are a number of positions which Pochettino will look to improve this summer and one such position that is sure to get an upgrade is the wide attacking area. The manager spent on Moussa Sissoko and Georges-Kevin N’Koudou to solve this problem last summer but neither of the players were impressive and are not expected to be close to the first team next season.

The manager has a few options in his mind and has been scouting the same but one name they should definitely be looking at is Bayern Munich star Douglas Costa.

The Brazilian international is easily one of the best wingers in world football at the moment but he has not been able to establish himself in the first team under Carlo Ancelotti at the Allianz Arena and is up for grabs this summer. Italian champions Juventus were close to signing him and failed. However, they have now reiterated their interest in the player, as he is up for sale yet again.

Douglas Costa

The Bayern president claims that he may yet stay back at the club but Tottenham should look at him as a possible addition to their squad this summer.

With just 8 goals in 50 Bundesliga appearances, Costa has not been effective in front of goal in Germany but at 26, he is entering his prime as a footballer and will be a massive upgrade on the quality in the Tottenham first team.

He will not cost more than €50m, which, in this inflated market, is a steal. He is quick and is hard to mark, making him a huge asset in counter-attacks – something that will bode well with the system Pochettino has used at the club successfully.

He is an established international who can win games on his own on his day and is exactly the kind of a player that Spurs are missing in their lineup at the moment. Argentine star Eric Lamela is currently the only first team option on the wing for Pochettino other than Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen, who are expected to be the first choice. So Costa will walk into the first team and can be the man that could help Spurs take the next step.
