Go for it Sarri – Chelsea could bag a coup by signing 20-year-old prodigy who was a £50m Juventus target

Why Chelsea must take lead and sign Federico Chiesa from Fiorentina

According to reports in the Sun, Chelsea are in pole position to get the services of young Italian winger Federico Chiesa from Serie A club Fiorentina. However, they will face stiff competition from some of the big clubs in Europe, who are also interested in the player. It is understood that a move could happen in January.

Express reports that Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri will have to go up against his former club Napoli to bring Chiesa to Stamford Bridge. The Italian is confident that his current club has the financial resources to get the job done in this deal.

The Fiorentina winger was a subject of a £50m bid from Italian champions Juventus, while the player confirmed that there were other unnamed clubs who offered around £63m. Juve are expected to make another bid once the winter window opens, with Manchester United also keeping close tabs on any development on the 20-year-old. (Sun)

But here’s why Chelsea should lead the race and sign Chiesa by fending off challenges from other big clubs:

Chiesa’s playing style suits Sarri’s

Player Information:

Age – 20; Main Position – Winger (Right, Left); Current club – Fiorentina

Chiesa is one of those wingers who are good on the ball and can create chances in a flash. He has the pace and dribbling skills to really trouble any defender in the wide areas. The 20-year-old possesses a dribble rate of 2.3 per game, which signifies his importance when on the ball.

His eye for crossing and playing a through ball for the forward runners is very good. The Italian has a key pass rate of 1.7 per game this season in three league games. This means he has already created 5 to 6 goalscoring opportunities at the start of this campaign.

The only negative is his contribution off the ball. However, he is just 20, so there is time for him to learn and become an all-around player.

For the kind of football that Sarri wants to play, wide attacking players are key to what’s created in the box. Hence, Chiesa’s addition would really inject fresh quality to Chelsea’s front-line.

Verdict

Chelsea have one of the best wingers in Europe, Eden Hazard, on the left-hand side of the attack. Getting someone like Chiesa would be the perfect icing on the cake, which looks very good under Sarri. Hence, the Blues must do everything to get the 20-year-old winger from Fiorentina.
