Go For It Wenger – This 30-year old Midfield Engine Along With Ramsey Would Work Wonders For Arsenal

Vidal And Ramsey Together At Arsenal? Oh Yes! That Would Work For Sure

Arsenal have been linked with a move for Bayern Munich midfielder Arturo Vidal. The Chilean sensation’s future at Bayern has been called into question, and he could be in line to leave the Allianz Arena. Bayern seem to be favouring younger recruits, with the club signing the 23-year-old Corentin Tolisso from Lyon, as well as 27-year-old former TSG Hoffenheim playmaker Sebastian Rudy.

Arsenal have been mentioned as one of the sides keen on the 30-year-old Vidal, and it will be interesting to see if Arsene Wenger signs Vidal. A player with as much experience as Vidal will be a benefit for any team. Over the years, he has made his name as a high energy midfielder with an eye for goals. Arsenal already have a box-to-box midfielder in the form of Aaron Ramsey, but how will both players link up for the Gunners?

At the Emirates, Arsene Wenger is engaged in a finely-tuned balancing act in which every player brought in must add to the squad in a significant way without taking something else away. Arsenal’s midfield was once built on the hope of Aaron Ramsey and Jack Wilshere achieving super-stardom and powering the club. They’ve taken a bit of a detour since then, but that doesn’t mean Vidal and Ramsey cannot establish a stronger partnership.

Pairing the two may seem like a disaster scenario, as neither is particularly keen on sitting back and taking up defensive duties. But both of them have evolved as players, and combining them might actually help the Gunners.
Ramsey has certainly learned how to sit deep and watch, over the last couple of seasons. Besides that, he can also be a destructive force in the middle of the pitch. Moreover, Vidal too can be trusted enough to do both jobs. The question, however, remains as to whether or not Vidal and Ramsey, combined, could provide enough defensive cover.

From what we have seen thus far, there is no limit as to what Ramsey can and cannot do. He needs to be free, but of late, he seems to have no qualms about dropping back. There would still be plenty of options for Vidal to get forward, even with the unpredictability of Ramsey. While this does provide a bit of friction, it all comes down to the athleticism and intelligence of both players to try and work out a system of sorts.

Having said that, Arsenal have struggled with pace at times, and with uncertainty surrounding the futures of Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil, Wenger could consider procuring Vidal’s signature.
