Go For It Klopp – Signing This £26.5m Serie A Defensive Beast Would Be The Perfect Start For Liverpool’s Summer Window

Why Leandro Paredes’ Arrival Could Mark A Perfect Start For Liverpool In The Transfer Market

Jurgen Klopp will be a busy man this summer as his Liverpool, just a three points away from Champions League qualification, need some serious improvements to compete at the highest level next season. The manager would be looking to add to almost every position in the squad and one player who Klopp seems interested in is AS Roma star Leandro Paredes.

A defensive midfielder by trait, Paredes has been a mainstay in the midfield for the Serie A outfit and has 3 goals and an assist from a deep-lying role. He was linked with a move to Liverpool before the start of the season and with Champions League football to offer, Liverpool might be able to lure him to Anfield this summer.

A specialist in set-pieces, Paredes is a gifted midfielder with a good eye for a pass. His key pass percentage is among the highest for players in his position in Europe and is a player who will help Liverpool at both ends of the field.

Brazilian star Lucas Leiva is not expected to be at the club beyond the summer, leaving Klopp with Emre Can and Jordan Henderson as the only options for this role next season.

He is sublime with his tracking and makes some goal saving, last ditch tackles that have saved Roma a number of times. He is happy to sit in front of the defence and dictate play and is not afraid of putting his body on the line. He is capable of pushing his team into attack when needed and also sit back to shut shop when the situation demands.

Liverpool have had their issues at the back and it is clear that they need a new centre-back to partner Joel Matip at the back to help improve the solidity of the back line. But adding Paredes to the midfield will also solve this problem to an extent.

In games where teams sit back and defend, Paredes will be the pivot on which Liverpool set their attacks up. And his ability to sniff out counters quickly will also help Liverpool stay on top of their game.

At 22, he is yet to play for the national side but Liverpool are convinced and are ready to splash around £26.5m for his services. It is reported that they are closing in on his signature but face stiff competition from Italian giants Juventus. So Klopp needs to get this deal done quickly and if they land Paredes, it will be the perfect start for them in the summer transfer window.
