He is a Man City legend – Pep Guardiola must offer this top-class star a new deal at the Etihad

Why Manchester City should offer Vincent Kompany a new contract

According to ESPN, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has paved the way for the club to offer captain Vincent Kompany a new contract in the summer. The Belgian defender is set to complete a decade of service with the Cityzens and is one of their most decorated players.

The centre-back’s current contract runs until June but talks are supposedly in plans to hand their captain a fresh deal. Kompany is the only player in the current squad who arrived before the Abu Dhabi investors took over. He has been a Sky Blue since the early days and has played a key role in bringing them to the top.

Though his last few years have been plagued by injuries and fitness issues, the Belgian has always been superb whenever he’s played. He has been extremely consistent in his performances and is an immense leader who has inspired the club over the years.

Vincent Kompany

A man all the other players look up to, the complete integrity of Manchester City could shift if Kompany leaves. The 32-year-old is set to play his testimonial for the club next summer and Manchester Evening News suggests that all the funds will be donated to the needy in their city.

Kompany has been a massive influence both on and off the pitch, taking time out of his schedule to meet his fans and young kids, who would definitely see the defender as a role model.

More than anything, the centre-back is also a source of motivation in times of need and is the kind of voice that can lift the team’s spirits in the dressing room. He has proven to be a rock at the back and has rarely put a foot wrong.

Though the Belgian will turn 33 soon, he is still more than capable of making a difference to this City side. Kompany possesses all the qualities a top centre-back should. He is calm and composed at the back, can control his backline and is also capable of chipping in with goals in crucial junctures.

Kompany’s fitness record might be dreadful but the Belgian seems to have bettered it over the years and has started this season in impressive form as well. City should definitely offer their captain a new contract, even if it’s a one-year deal.
