Here’s our EFL Championship’s Team of the Season – featuring Wolves and Derby County stars

EFL Championship Team Of The Season

It has been a long, long season in the Championship. By the time the season closes, there will have been a number of hard-fought battles, season-altering results and fantastic goals.

However, who have been the stand-out players this year? If you were to assemble the best team, then who would be included? Would it just be all Wolves players? Would any players from relegated teams even get a look-in? Read on to find out!

Formation: 4-2-3-1

John Ruddy – Wolves (GK)

John Ruddy has been excellent for Wolves this season. He has kept 23 sheets in 44 appearances, which is an incredible number. He has been reliable when called upon and has managed his defence well.

Bruno Manga – Cardiff (RB)

Manga has been excellent for Cardiff City this season. He has averaged 2.4 tackles per game, 6.3 clearances and 3.2 aerial duels. He also has averaged less than 1 foul a game, which is incredible. He is strong defensively and has also managed to grab a couple of assists when going forward.

Shaun HutchinsonMillwall (CB)

The strong centre-back has been excellent for Millwall this season. He has averaged an incredible 6.1 aerial duels per game over the course of the season and 1.7 interceptions. He has also grabbed a couple of important goals for his team.

Joe Bryan

Daniel Ayala – Middlesbrough (CB)

Ayala has been included in this team because of the large number of goals he has scored for his team. He has 7 goals this season. He has also played very well defensively for his team and has benefited from Pulis’ defensive approach.

Joe Bryan – Bristol City (LB)

The 24-year-old left-back has been fantastic for Bristol City this season and has easily been the best left-back in the league. He has 4 goals and 3 assists to his name and has been excellent defensively as well.

Reuben Neves – Wolves (CM)

The 21-year-old has had a very good season for the Championship winners and has excelled in his first season in England. When spending around £15million, Wolves fans would’ve been hoping for the complete article but what they have bought is an incredibly talented player who will only get better with age.

Jack Grealish

Jack Grealish – Aston Villa (CM)

Grealish has looked a class above at times this season. He is undoubtedly very talented but this season, he has put his head down and worked hard as well. Would be very interesting to see him in the Premier League.

Matej Vydra – Derby (CAM)

Matej Vydra has tailed off a little towards the end of the season but has to be included in this team for his form in the early stages. He is still the joint top-scorer in the league, though he has scored just 2 goals in his last 10 games.

Ryan Sessegnon – Fulham (AML)

If Fulham do go up to the Premier League and manage to keep hold of Ryan Sessegnon, then they could be in for a very exciting season. He has 15 goals and 6 assists for his team and loves running at defenders.

Bobby Reid

Bobby Reid – Bristol City (AMR)

Reid has been incredible this year for Bristol City. He has an amazing record of 19 goals and 7 assists and he is a constant menace to the opposition. Thankfully, he has played on the wing a few times, so he can be included in this team alongside a striker!

Martyn Waghorn – Ipswich (ST)

The 27-year-old is in this team purely based on stats. He has 14 goals, which is five off the top scorer in the league but he also has 8 assists for his team, making him the striker that has contributed the most for his team in the league. He has also been doing this for a poor Ipswich side, which makes him a stand-out player.

(PS: This article was written before Derby County’s 3-1 win vs Cardiff City earlier in the day. Matej Vydra got himself on the scoresheet)
