Here’s our La Liga team of the 2017/18 season featuring Barcelona and Real Madrid stars

Ernesto Valverde

La Liga Team Of The 2017/18 Season

Barcelona were crowned La Liga champions after they beat Deportivo La Coruna and can go unbeaten this league season if they avoid defeat in their final four games.

Arguably the best league in world football at the moment and with Barcelona clinching the title, let’s take a look at the best XI of the season.

La Liga Team Of The Season

Manager: Ernesto Valverde

Formation: 4-4-2

Marc-Andre ter Stegen (GK)

The Barcelona goalkeeper has firmly established himself as one of the best shot-stoppers in the world with his impressive performances this season. He is one of the most improved goalkeepers in the last two years.

Sergi Roberto (RB)

Roberto has been a permanent fixture in Barcelona’s 25th La Liga title triumph. He has been brilliant attacking wise and equally solid defensively, making him a player difficult to ignore. Equally adept at playing in midfield, Roberto has established himself as one of the key members of Valverde’s squad.

Gerard Pique (CB)

Pique did not have the best of times last season but he has returned to form this year, putting in incredible performances at the heart of the defence for Barcelona. The Spanish international has been a mainstay at the back, marshalling his troops expertly and playing a large role in ensuring that the Catalan giants have remained unbeaten so far in the league.

Diego Godin

Diego Godin (CB)

Widely regarded as one of the best centre-backs in the world, Godin has been stellar for Atletico Madrid this season. He has been a pillar at the back, helping Atletico to second place in the table behind champions Barcelona.

Jordi Alba (LB)

Even in a weak season for Real Madrid, Marcelo has performed very well but he fails to eclipse Jordi Alba’s top displays at left-back for Barcelona. Alba has been rejuvenated this season after spending the majority of last campaign on the bench.

Sergio Busquets (CM)

The best defensive midfielder in the world, Busquets gets into my team without much fuss. He controls games on his own, makes challenges, recycles possession and shields the back four quite brilliantly. This season has to be Busquets’ best one so far in his career.

Geoffrey Kondogbia (CM)

At Inter, Kondogbia was way below average but the transformation in his game this season has been admirable. The Frenchman has been controlling matches on his own, playing every game at an amazing level. One of the prime reasons behind Valencia’s smashing campaign.

Sergio Busquets

Antoine Griezmann (RW)

Griezmann started off slowly but picked up the tempo by the time 2018 arrived. Clever on the ball and capable of winning matches on his own, the Frenchman has weaved his magic and continues to be a star performer for Atletico.

Iago Aspas (LW)

Iago Aspas is one of the main reasons why Celta Vigo find themselves placed 11th in the La Liga table. After a forgettable stint with Liverpool, Aspas has been truly brilliant for Celta, proving to be their primary attacking weapon this season with bags of goals and assists.

Cristiano Ronaldo

Lionel Messi (ST)

Messi has been unstoppable right from the start of the season. He has been ripping apart defences with ease and poise and easily gets into my team. Short of words to describe his talent, the mercurial Argentine has once again played a crucial role in Barcelona’s title triumph.

Cristiano Ronaldo (ST)

Ronaldo started off very slowly but gradually picked up the pace and look at his figures now! They are staggering after he transformed his game after New Year. It is a testament to his agility, tenacity and never-say-die attitude.
